First week on the project, been asked to take notes on wed/thurs during a 2 day workshop. I find it pretty difficult to take meeting notes in a subject area I'm completely unfamiliar with. Any tips?

Write verbatim whatever you think to hear - often it will make sense to the more experienced team members, or to you a few days later

No recordings. Already had to sign an NDA specifically to attend this workshop. Completely confidential.

Ask if anyone has a glossary/list of acronyms and vendor names. I always make one/have someone make one and keep it updated for the life of the project. It helps so much for these tasks. Also read the notes the person took for the meetings prior to your arrival, set up 15 min with them and run down your list of questions.

^if you bring a tape recorder you must disclose to all participants you are recording and ask if all participants are ok with that.

Just know the names of the people around the table, write down where they are sitting (if they are on the phone it blows and just sit next to someone who knows them) then you can always ask the person to clarify a paragraph or something if you completely lose it. Also, know what is side banter vs action items, etc. Take mental breaks during the BS side banter that doesn't really matter (example - the group discussed X, y and z) that way it's a placeholder and people will know what they discussed without getting specific. Honestly, notes are pretty basic. Don't sweat it, most people won't read them anyway.

Get the agenda and meeting invite list in advance so you can do some prep, but like people said, write what you hear (it'll make sense to another member of your team) and ask the more senior members of your team to "spot you". By that, I mean the following: 1. Repeat any action items or decisions to make sure you got them down; 2. Prompt with the names of people you may not know; 3. Clarify for you if something is important or a tangent. Hopefully there will be a solid facilitator who can assist with these and keep the tangents to a minimum. These 3 things should allow you to keep up with notes and reduce questions you have to ask. Good luck!

Hey everyone - when is the most appropriate time to alert a firm you are in a relationship with another co-worker? My SO and I are currently the same rank but one of us is up for promotion to manager this year end. I should also mention we are at the same client but on different projects. We currently don’t see this being a huge conflict of interest but perhaps this is naive thinking. We only recently began dating so that’s why we’re are unsure how to best approach. Would appreciate any insight.

Is it just me, or is the big 4 sales culture low energy? I get the RFP process is painful, having done it in other industries myself, but the way I've seen most people sell in these firms seems mediocre for the amount of support that gets thrown at these opportunities. Maybe it's the ex-finance consultant in me, but the approaches I've seen in my 5 year tenure so far have me thinking this isn't catering to my strengths and won't be the best move to stick it out to SM/PPMD.
