First year associate at a v10 firm in a major market. I was a 3L hire into a specialized corporate group. I spent my summer associateship at a big law firm doing a combination of Lit and Corp, but was heavily leaning lit after my summer. I needed to change firms after my summer so I could move cities to be closer to family with health issues, which is why I accepted a corporate offer b/c no one was hiring for lit. Fast forward a few months and I’m miserable doing corp. work. I miss lit. (Cont.)

I asked the firm for an internal switch. They have in the past permitted such a switch, but because the group is so understaffed they denied the request. Is it feasible to lateral into a different practice group as a first year? Came from a t-14, graduated with honors.

like

Yes for sure. Our firm has hired first years who are switching groups. But I will say most firms are understaffed in corporate right now so that’s where a lot of the need is but you should still try.

like

Absolutely. You’re still early enough that it would be no problem to retrain you and it seems you have great credentials. If you don’t mind sharing, what city?

I wish juniors had a marketplace of sorts where we can swap practices. I’m looking to make the reverse switch haha. I am seeing some junior lit roles on LinkedIn, so I’m sure they’re out there. Good luck!!

likesmartfunny

I believe some of the mid sized firms are hiring junior lot associates in Chicago like Benesch and Baker Hostetler. The bigger firms are just so corporate needy it might be harder to get in there but definitely doable at your level to make a switch

like

I’ve heard that Blank Rome has been hiring lit associates in Chi, but they just opened that office.

like

It’s feasible, but going to be hard this year. Your firm isn’t the only one understaffed in corporate. Most firms looking to hire 1st year laterals will be looking for corporate juniors.

Serious question: do I *need* MBB on my resume to have good exit ops from consulting? I have an M7 MBA, but struggled to land interviews because I didn’t have big brands on my resume (confirmed by recruiters). I wouldn’t be surprised if most/all F100 and FAANG hired MBB only.

Which is best? A law degree or a master's in international relations? Those are where my interests lie. I keep reading that JDs are valued in compliance but am wondering if a different graduate program is better for my goals. I already plan to obtain the CAMS certification. Thank you!

Good morning everyone, Anyone open to referring me to a role at Amazon.

Im currently studying Industrial Engineering with a minor in management. I’m interviewing currently for consulting, and theres a VC course at my school that seems really interesting but I can’t fit it into my schedule without removing the last class I need for my minor. Would not getting that minor do any harm to me short or long term? Im thinking that if I end up at consulting especially no one will care about a management minor they’ll just look at the firm I worked for.

What would you do if you're on year end audits whole year round? Got 1 6/30, 1 9/30, and 3 12/31's. Honestly thinking of quitting now. Always asked PML to be on one main client, nothing's changed.

I am a biology graduate. I worked in cancer research and development for more than two years. Recently moved to Canada, and now I'm wanting to transition into clinical research.
Most jobs I find online ask for atleast 2 years clinical experience.
Does anyone have any tips on how to procure this experience? Should I invest in a course? Or should I volunteer at a CRO?
I recently got offered a clinical admin position, would this count as clinical exp?
Thanks

I’m starting to feel bitter that I took a pay cut to transition to HR from agency recruiting so I put myself open to recruiters on LinkedIn and got a Sr Recruiter contract offer with a company that I’m familiar with for $38/hour. I don’t love the company’s culture so I’m going to keep looking but would it be worth leveraging the offer with my current org? I’ve only been there for 7 months
