Which agencies are going through layoffs
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

If you survived the apocalyptical months of April/May and are making hours now, then no, you won’t be fired.
Only a few unknowns remain:
-Impacts of the election on transactional practices
-Impacts of a Biden administration on the US’ COVID response before a vaccine (i.e. new lockdowns in 2021)
-Economic effects of a full-on new wave of Covid
All three of them are probably minor
inconveniences in comparison with what happened March and April. You’ll be fine.
Same boat, I was really short of my annual goal finishing entering my second year last month. I got reamed out pretty good, but still have the job so it could've been worse
I’m in a similar situation and it was helpful to find out that my billables compared to those of the other associates with the same experience as me. That could give you an idea of where the problem is.
Exactly. I finished my first year at around 1600-1700 hours total. I was feeling super nervous but was told (and got to see) that most first years in corporate had billed a similar amount and I was even slightly above average. They'll tell you to try to bill more the next year and that's that.
Neither did I. Did you address it with a mentor?

What is considered “quite behind”?
300ish hours.
I think it depends on how you compare to other associates in your group, and obviously I don’t know you or your firm, but very unlikely due to COVID. I think everyone gets that this is an odd year. I think taking steps to show that you’re trying to increase your hours will go a long way.

If your firm has other reasons to fire you hours are a bigger concern but almost never are the single reason to lose your position
Most firms will be understanding about not meeting hours this year especially for first years. It’s been a crazy year. You’ll probably be fine especially if your hours are picking up now!
1100 hours short this year. (My first year). I’m pretty sure I’m bound to get fired but no one has ever said anything (yet)
