Relationship and testimonials from past clients. Client want to work won’t propel they can trust and have a proven tracker record. They could care less about certain credentials. Credentials help you get you into a job, don’t necessarily help you land clients directly. Now if you have certain credentials maybe it can help. For example an mba from a top school could expand your network that could help you land clients in the future, but that ultimately fall under relationships.

Become the clients trusted advisor. Do little things for them and do them well. Be extremely responsive. When there are new developments get to them first before other firms. Always focus on showing them the value add from your work - what extra idea or suggestion or find did you tell them about ABOVE AND BEYOND what they asked you to do. Be friendly. Ask them about their kids. People love to talk about their kids or if no kids their dog or cats. The message you want to send is that you are there to HELP them. In every conversation your focus is on helping them and not on yourself.

Me, my brother, and my parents have a family dog in midwest. He's been with us for 4 years now! I am his primary carer and he loves me the most. However, I am planning on starting my MBA in Boston next year. I really want to take him with me, but I won't be home most of the time with classes and networking. So I am planning on leaving him with the family for 2 years (of course I will be visiting) Will he think I abandoned him? Other family members love him too! Just not as much as I do.

How did you get into your area of law? I have been licensed for 5 years and I still don't know where I ultimately want to be. I started as a line attorney and after 3 years, I moved to a non-litigation position working for the state. I feel lost. I have thought about getting MBA to compliment my JD. I was a good litigator but I had trouble turning off my brain and being present with my family when I was a litigator, so I don't think I would want to go back.

Is it just me? I feel like I will never RE at this point. I bootstrapped my way through college and MBA with the help of Uncle Sam but didn’t actually start saving any $ til my early 30s. At 38 yo in a MCOL area and now making $200k a year (single mom), the $40k a year I am putting away doesn’t seem to be enough to RE. Currently at about $300k investment, one rental property. I feel like exiting the rat race entirely and building a small cabin on a cheap peace of land is the only way some days!

WWYD: 35 years old. Just started aggressive savings couple yrs ago (started career non profit, then mba and then paying loans off). Need $30k for wedding soon, then keep emergency fund. So ~$100k..WWYD?

Has anyone ever disclosed a mental health diagnosis to their firm? I have ADHD and have never told my firm because it was never relevant. Any advice?
