Totally fine. Person is just trying to expand their network, something that makes eminent sense. Folks always think of everything within the now timeframe but careers take many twists and turns and there is nothing wrong with building a network for the future. He is opposing counsel today, he may be an in-house contact that you want to reach out to in 6 years. If you keep this in mind rather than the fake hostility of the moment you will be well served

Definitely not the norm but I don’t see anything wrong with it either. It’s an opportunity to build your network. And hopefully this is a sign that they won’t be a total ass to deal with.
I think it’s totally normal. It’s not your Insta. It’s the most basic of professional online connections.
