First year lit associate. I keep having terribly slow weeks. I’m not on track to meet my hours. I’ve asked for work and taken on transactional assignments, but it’s still not enough. Is this the norm or am I getting fired?

If you make it a year in biglaw and get laid off as a junior, what are the chances of not being able to find any legal job afterward?

I was laid off recently from my role as my firm declared insolvency. I had an interview with Deloitte today (My background includes tier 1 graduation, work experience with investment banking firms as well as consulting firms) and the interviewer thought that they could arm twist me. The interviewer was rude from the start, didn’t let me finish sentences, treated my work experience lightly and later told me that the work is tedious and she doesn’t want me complaining later. Is it a red flag as a candidate to ask if a company offers maternity leave? I was recently laid off, so I wasn't expecting to lose my job. We're planning on trying for a baby in the next year or so, so it's really important to me that my next job offers paid maternity leave.

Turns out my feet are size 9. I’ve been wearing 9.5/10 the last 6 years. No wonder I kept tripping over my own feet…

Shot out to all the chill partners out there who don’t create ridiculous timelines, push back against unrealistic client demands and look out for their associates mental and physical health.

I realized that a senior associate has been bcc’ing the partner when they send an “admonishing email” about things I missed. This seems… kind of backstabbing but please let me know otherwise.

When should I start to get worried that corporate is so slow? Have only billed 230 hours for the year so far and it doesn’t seem like things are picking up soon so getting nervous since my firm has a billable hours minimum requirement.

Feeling a bit frustrated as I am making a lot of mistakes. I am a first year at a V10 corporate group, and I keep making mistakes when under time pressure or multitasking on 3-4 deals. I have sent wrong documents, made typos on emails and understood the assignment wrong every now and then. I am worries I come off as incompetent even as a first year.

I’m a first-time prospective lateral likely to get an offer shortly. I just received a lateral questionnaire that requests billable hours, rates, fees collected, etc. for the last three years. Forgive my ignorance but is this normal/standard? Do people actually answer these honestly? One of the reasons I’m leaving my firm is there isn’t enough work in my group so of course my hours are low.

Have a coworker who volunteers for work but never ends up doing it. At what point does it make sense to go to the partner to address this? How much did you lie on your resume to get your dream job?

I am a junior biglaw lit associate who is extremely extroverted. Unfortunately, I’m realizing that so far litigation hasn’t been as great for extroverts as advertised. Is this just the nature of being a junior attorney in any practice anywhere? Are there specific specialties within litigation that extroverts particularly enjoy? I generally like what I do but working crazy hours in mostly isolation doesn’t seem sustainable long term for my personality type.
