Get out. Get out now
I'm a first year and this is what I expect from my senior.
1. Be there for the staff.
2. Teach the staff.
3. Make sure your staff is comfortable to share their difficulties.
4. Be cool
5. Support your staff and represent them
Senior here - I agree with EY2. Manage your manager. Have good project management skills. Let them know when to expect deliverables, raise issues quickly (like within minutes). Don't be afraid to let them know you don't know something or if you're struggling. As for your staff/associates. Be relatable/personable in order to create a healthy environment. That way questions/issues will get filtered to you quicker. Don't treat them like they're dumb. Take the time to coach even if it sets your own work back - it'll pay dividends later on. Remember you were in there shoes too!
Be vocal, represent and support your staff.
Most of the job is managing your manager and making sure to develop staff so you can properly delegate
And don't forget that staff are often only 1-2 years younger than you so don't go on a power trip.
Oh and I have no manager and the senior manager just quit Friday
their* (facepalm)
Don't be an asshole
EY3. Sounds like a great opportunity for you to step up and impress.
Do not trust your manager, do not your associates and most important thing, do not trust yourself!
Delegate delegate delegate and a great attitude
Seriously someone answer this. Because right now my client is an actual dumpster fire and I'm the only rising senior who hasn't quit yet
Quit. That's my tip.
Lol yeah EY4 that's one way to think of it. Good thing my team is a staff 2 who had to repeat his staff 1 year and doesn't get anything done. Lucky me
communicate. then communicate some more.
LOVE your staff. Deliver exactly what you are asked for, then a little more.
