First-time homebuyer here from DC. I was told to shop around for rates so I was thinking of checking Penfed, Chase and Bank of America. Is this the right combination? Any other banks I should check?

Chase has been very competitive lately. Bring them a better offer and they tend to match and add incentives like points

Thanks! I'll take note of this.

If you are really looking for rock bottom rates, create a burner account and profile with one of the online lead generators. You will get 4 or 5 rate quotes in a day or so. They are usually from no name banks or mortgage brokers but can be much cheaper than the big names. The loans are typically serviced by a big bank after you close, if that makes you feel better.

Federal hill mortgage was amazing and did everything over email. Lowest rate I found and lowest closing costs. They are based in Baltimore but we closed on a home an hour away

Bought in MoCo a few years ago. Checked with Costco lenders, a lead generator (bankrate.com) and realtor suggested TDBank. TD beat them all with rates, points and credit towards closing costs. I took a jumbo loan FWIW. Good luck OP!

Check US Bank as well. Good rates, great service, didn't sell my loan off. Had two different mortgages and a refi. Rate is not the single metric to decide a mortgage...at least not once you're talking tenths of percent.

I live in NY and am being offered a job in the mid-western office of a large network agency for about half my current salary, based on some unofficial website (attached). I would accept a small adjustment but this seems crazy. A salary isn’t just to pay rent, it’s meant to be to give you a chance to save, pay off loans etc. I’m sure their clients don’t pay them half the fees of the NY clients. I was laid off and the market is very slow, which is the reason I’m entertaining this idea. Thoughts?

My team recently had a presentation delivered on BLM by a black female analyst. She was quite impassioned but also professional in my view. My partner thinks that 1) she needs to tone down her message and 2) she doesn't offer any solutions for the firm, and wants to feed it back. I think 1 is tone-policing and 2 isn't an analyst's job. For context, I'm based in London (largely removed from US politics/social issues etc) and am a non-black minority. My B4 firm has ~2 black partners out of 800.
