From someone who works at a startup accelerator: I think you need to consider who your ideal customer is. A lot of it comes down to the purse strings, who holds them and what kind of contracts you’re planning on working with. State/local are significantly easier to go after, although your chance of red tape is high. I’d see if you can scrape LinkedIn & see whatever potential job role or department is most likely to be holding those purse strings. Soft intros from your network is the best way to approach this, but could be very difficult to find as most regular police officers will not know tons of back office details. It’s worth seeing if you can find what comparable solutions they currently use & why your product (features, pricing, all-in-one vs. several kinds) is a better choice for them. As for federal contracts, those take months to years and are super elusive/challenging to land - especially if you have very little track record. However, they’re super elusive if you can land them and give you a niche foothold into a market with high entry boundaries/low competition. I’d start with offering pilot versions to ‘break in’ for your first few customers (a ‘Who We Work With’ page on your website is the goal here and will make future intros/reach outs much more successful) but if that department already has something custom built, I’d say you’re coming with a really tough sell.

Wrapping up maternity leave and negotiating start and end times with the nanny. What time do your nannies come over and how late do they stay? Both husband and I are consultants and our hours are so unpredictable. Nanny can come 8 hours a day. We are thinking 9-5 and then based on our day, one of us takes care of the baby for another two hours and do the bath/bed time around 7ish.

My income is $6 away from the next tax bracket(32%). Any ideas on how to lower my taxable income? Last year, my additional source of income(cd accts, robinhood) net out to be 8k. So i know this will take me over to the next tax bracket. Currently, I do put 6k in ira, 3500 in hsa, do roth contribution 14% towards my 401k. Also, pay ~30k/year tuition for my grad schooI(dont think this helps lowering my tax?) anything that I am missing to lower my taxable income? What else do you do?

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
