This is a tough one especially since she hasn’t been with you for that long but you want her to be a happy employee since she takes care of your kids. I would say to pay the two weeks and then the rest of the year, she takes off when you go on vacation. If she’s really good, maybe throw in an extra week later on.

like

I’d pay two of the weeks now, and also the time you’re away since she didn’t choose to take that time off. If she chooses additional time off before/after your away, that should prob be unpaid.

We normally give 2 weeks of paid vac plus holidays. I suspect she will also want time off in Dec/Jan. Advice on paying her? Do we pay her for the 2 of the 3 weeks she has been out and say no more paid vac this year? Do we pay her for these weeks and then no more paid vac over Dec holidays? (We will be gone so she will have time off regardless). I want to be compassionate and build a good relationship but also don’t want to be taken adv of. (We has to bring old nanny back while she was gone so are out double our money for the weeks she has been out!). Not to mention the agency fee we just paid to hire her. Help!

I don’t have a nanny but paying her the 2 weeks and then giving her unpaid time off for the rest makes sense. You’re her employer and if she’s not working I don’t see why you have to pay her more than the 2 weeks you have both contractually agreed to. However, did she already request time off in Dec/Jan or are you essentially forcing her to take vacation that she doesn’t have? That’s where I could see it getting a little tricky if she had planned to work during that time.

We had new neighbors move in across the street a few months ago. A couple with a child of about 7 years old who clearly has a cognitive disability of some sort (I suspect autism). I thought perhaps his parents kept an eye on him through the window, but today he was hanging on a neighbor’s front stoop for a good half hour. I went over to talk to him and see if (con’t)
