Excessive virtue signaling

like

What makes you think mission and profits aren’t compatible?

Virtue signaling has nothing to do with mission and is in fact a distraction from it.

1. A small brand, 2. general lack of structure / advancement path. The top performers at MBB have a very clear path to making tons of money and know what they need to do to get to each steps and almost exactly when it will happen. You also only get to exit once, so there is a big incentive to exit to something else with a strong brand so you can keep the career momentum going. If you are crushing it at MBB, almost any exit is going to include taking on more career risk than just sticking it out.

For context, I just left BCG in my 3rd year post undergrad and was doing well. Only left because a major brand name in an industry I have experience in offered me a 50% pay increase

To me it’s closest to manager culture.

What system is in place that rewards good managers (I.e.,those who treat their people well, mentor heavily, enforce WLB, etc.)?

Most importantly, what system is in place to either check or remove poor managers (I.e., berate employees, don’t manage scope, expect 80+ hour weeks every week, expect result without mentorship, etc.) ?

I can tell you very quickly if I want to work for you when I ask employees of my tenure and they tell me more bad manager experiences vs good ones.

Other influence is whether the type of work I like consistently exists at your firm, and whether I will be allowed/mentored in it.

Overall, I could care less about your profits and mission. What will my day to day look like? There’s your culture.

I always wanted to follow that traditional, full-time 2-year MBA track after working for 3-5 years, but my life took different turns after several years. I have to keep working. I’m older now (low to mid thirties), and because of industry moves, I don’t have as much experience as people would have for executive MBA programs. Is a part-time MBA at a top school worth it? Will I have more internal opportunities such as better lateral moves or even outside opportunities?

At a very low point. Sounds dramatic but I’m at a top 10 firm and the comp is just not worth what this job is doing to my mental health and family life. The problem is I have no idea what to do next as I have no interest in continuing the cpa route. Mid 40s, not a senior partner, so def can’t retire. Willing to take a pay cut but feel like I have to resign to create the time and mental space to do this. Anyone have good recommendations for navigating big career transitions? Thank you.
