Fishers, any tip to apply and ace for a role that you have zero experience? I have more than 10 years of experience as EA and want to move to OM/admin manager role however most companies only hire those with minimal 3-5 years of experiences.

EA can be a fairly direct translation to an office manager or other admin role so I certainly wouldn’t let that stipulation stop you. Just make sure you highlight the related experience to the roles higher in your resume.

I moved to an admin manager role with no people management experience. It's important to highlight any and all leadership experiences you have. Once I got into that role, I took some HR courses so I would have a good understanding. One thing to note: the best EAs do not necessarily make the best managers. That sometimes-bulldog mentality that you need as an EA to be an effective gatekeeper is directly opposite what you need as a manager of people. So, when you land an interview, you will be asked behavioral questions and you should answer as a manager, not as an EA if that makes sense.

For example, they give you a scenario with a low-performing assistant who you manage, and ask how you would handle that. There are company policies that require certain steps in a certain order (verbal warning, written warning, PIP, etc.) so even if you think you know what to do, your first step is always to consult with HR and follow the steps they recommend. You can of course have input - and should, as the manager - but you have to be both thoughtful, supportive, and align with HR. It's a hard line to walk, believe me.

I don't it really matters. I got this role without prior experience as well but I took online courses. I also worked on my connections.

Hi all,

I need your advice and suggestions

I am looking to have my career into management consulting. I am a 2020 grad from VIT University and have around 2.5 years of job experience. Currently I'm working as a sector analyst and my job includes a lot of primary and secondary research and insight crunching. I am very sound in using all the ms applications along with a little knowledge of SQL.

Right now, I feel my job is kind of monotonous and I'm getting a feeling to move out...

Currently making 99k as an SA with no MBA. Got an offer from another big 4 for 130k with same title. Hoping for promotion to manager in the next year or two. Should I jump?

23 years in the professional workplace, I've had great careers. A few National level roles yet I still feel like an imposter. I often feel as all of my success was on the backs of the support team I had around me in various roles. In a role now with little to no qualified support and I feel as if I'm floundering. I'm a coach/motivator style of leader. I feel held back by my lack of experienced direct reports.
