Is that you joe rogan?
Why?
Yes. You were in CA most of the year. There’s a specific day count that applies to CA taxes, and I don’t remember what it is exactly but I know we are wayyyyyyy beyond that limit since we are in mid-August.
I think the cutoff is around 45 days or something
Yes, as EY2 said, you’ve spent most of your time in CA, and you’re moving away for a temporary or a transitory purpose. As long as you maintain your strongest connection to California (license, rental, bank accounts etc.) you’re a resident. Look up FTB Publication 1031 for more specific information.
Yes, you need to be out of California for at least 540 days, establish domicile in another state and not have intentions to move back to California. If you as a previous California tax resident were to file nonresident one year and then move back the following year, it’s likely the California tax board will come for you for those back taxes
By domicile I mean, did you change your drivers license, voter registration, vehicle registration, professional licenses, etc? Simply moving out of California is not enough to change domicile.

Thanks for the info. My project in Texas started in February, so i stayed in CA only 1 month this year.
You might get fked if your company is small and doesn't register to do business in Texas, thus reporting your income as CA income and depending on how you get paid.
California tax board rivals NYC in rabid fervor with which they hunt down taxes owed.
I’m no tax person but more than likely you will have to still pay some taxes to CA. I live in TX always have. But every project that I have work on and had to travel to I have had to pay state income taxes. One year worked in CA, CO, NY, PA, and OK had to file for each dog those states. I am hoping that this year since all work is remote I will not be filing other state income taxes
