Accounting

Five years in public accounting. I’m firmly a believer that I am not a good fit for for public accounting. What are good exit strategies for senior tax accountants?

@RSM 1 - basically that those 5 years of OP's life are gone regardless of their next step. The only thing that matters is how OP can best spend their future, since the past won't change, and there are no refunds on time spent.

Sunk cost fallacy, be the change you want. Just make sure it's for the right reasons

What doesn’t make you a good fit? Is it just the group you are in?

Real talk, get provision experience. Provisions are the best way out of public for tax

A few things make me not a good fit. I hate the me first mentality. The lack of communication that makes nearly impossible to do my job well. I like tax work- I like client contact and working through problems/issues... I hate the political element of the work place. I have provision experience so that is a plus, I supposed?

I’ve been on the bench for 5 months, about to start 6. I’ve had projects lined up, and then client postpones or cuts scope which includes my role. Time to move on? Very frustrated here.
