(FL) So I currently work in ID, storm claims etc., and would appreciate any advice the great people here have.

I have been practicing for about 1 1/2 years. My current case load is approx. 80-90 cases with very little supervision and a shared assistant. This is essentially impossible to keep up with and the pay is horrible.

I want out, but feel as though I’m an undesirable hire due to the above and I went to a bad law school. Is a recruiter the way to go? How do I transition out of ID?

My thought would be this. Get another year or so of experience. The fact that you’ll know how to bill is an asset. Once you have 2.5-3 years under your belt, try to move to a higher level ID option, such as third party or coverage. That would be the best ticket out in my opinion. First party storm claims are the crappiest claims and lawyers based upon my experience in the industry.

I now handle professional negligence defense, mainly legal mal. I would hire a lawyer who knew how to bill and manage a case but not before 3 years post-grad.

Probably worth it to at least talk to a recruiter and see what other options are out there for your experience range. IMO not worth sticking it out if you’re miserable.

I work at a firm that does insurance coverage litigation, representing policyholders. We have several people (including me) with ID background. The pay is significantly better than ID and we don’t deal with the bs of answering to both the insured and insurer. I and most of my colleagues went to state schools or low ranking private.

Advice requested: I’m a 3rd year lit. associate at a mid sized, Manhattan, commercial firm. Generally feel that the partners like me and my work. I’ve been pretty busy over the last couple of months and have felt a bit behind on assignments and a little careless. I haven’t made any major mistakes, but some minor careless ones (e.g., highlighting cases from wrong court in an informal research email, but correcting it before anyone said anything). I guess I just feel that I’m not efficient ..

It is common practice at my small firm by two main partners to fly through transactions for clients regardless of potential conflicts (for the company) or issues that may arise. It is often chaotic and has led to lawsuits being filed by investors against the clients. I know this is expected from time to time but I feel like I’m not getting the proper exposure to doing deals the right way. Would it be better at a larger firm or is this common anywhere? Mostly deal with microcap companies.

Is it selfish of me for wanting to stay in our state?I want him to go to the best program, but uprooting my career and taking a whole new bar exam is a lot.

Well the joke is on me. Because he worked for the govt for some years before becoming an attorney, they made him a SENIOR associate. He has 0 prior attorney experience. Yet he's a senior. I have no words.
