Flat fee billing - pros and cons from an in house perspective? My specific goal is to deal with an out of control docket of low risk toxic tort cases that are being routinely filed and sit open for years, but am open to hear about any experiences in any area of law.

It’s predictable and you don’t worry about run away bills. You have to be careful not to get too good of a deal (you get what you pay for) and it’s possible that someone figures out how to do the case where they get paid more than the hourly cost.

You just need to find the right local counsel and keep an eye on their bills.

Landed a job in NYC. As much as I want to live there and will be moving in with my partner I think the most financially savvy option is to live in Jersey city to save on the city tax. Both our salaries would definitely go up next year so moving to the city would be a huge possibility in 2022. Has anyone else started our in Jersey city first ? Is it worth it or should I just try to make it work in NYC ?

Hi Everyone,

I just received an offer to work as an software sales representative (SDR) for
IBMs Z systems. I'm coming as a sales engineer in the cloud security space. Can anyone advise me on whether Z systems are something worth going into? Also what do the growth opportunities look like at IBM? Is there opportunity for lateral movement onto other teams? Not too sure how I feel about working on mainframes (Z systems) but they keep pitching hybrid cloud to me. IBM

How do I become more assertive at work? I keep getting this feedback. I don’t think I am a shy person, I am however an introvert and don’t go out of my way to interact with people. I do good work and believe it should speak for itself. My supervisor told me that this is not how it works in consulting. I am worried I will not be able to climb the ladder because of my personality. Any tips on how women on the more introverted side of the spectrum have made it in consulting?

Hi folks,
Quite new to this. I’ll be moving to Dubai in a month and I got to know that my education documents need to be attested before the company can apply for visa. I’ve been trying to get hold of this as information is not consistent. Do I need to have MOFA Attestation in addition to the UAE Embassy Attestation from home country or will that be managed by the company in UAE itself?

I’ve been in an in-house role since the beginning of the year and just gave 2 weeks’ notice to leave for a much better paying and better titled position. The response has been very petty, to the point that I’ve been called unprofessional even after I asked the hiring attorney whether I could give longer notice at the current company’s request. Is this normal?

I am currently at a firm and received an in-house offer. Aside from main items like comp and big ticket benefits like PTO/health insurance/401k, what other items do I need to think about discussing/negotiating? For example, fees to keep bar licensure, professional association fees, CLEs, etc. I feel like there is so much on that end I currently take for granted being covered at my firm. Anything else I should consider?
