Flight got delayed bc of weather and then ultimately cancelled bc the pilots "timed out" i.e. would have had too many hours worked that day by the time we landed. This ever happened to anyone else?

Happens a lot. Do you really want someone tired af pushing your metal through the sky? They deserve to go home just like we do.

like

Yes, they are logging hours in the plane, while they are sitting on the tarmac or circling the airport waiting to land. When there are systemic delays like today, these guys suffer the same, and hours are counting down. Fortunately for us, they make pilots get rested after x number of hours.

like

Happened to me. Delta gave me hotel and then 20k miles. The one way ticket was like $120 lol

like

No it's not. It's because the sky's have aids today and there are a bunch of delays. They can't plan for that.

like

Yes, happened to me twice in two weeks last year at dfw. What a joke

like

I remember my first flight.

like

You'd rather take off knowing your pilot is exhausted? Lol no thanks I'll take the points

like

It's an FAA regulation. Pilots must have at least 8 hours of rest to operate a plane ...something I think the consulting industry should adopt!!🤔

like

Heard about this happening. Never experienced it. How long was the delay?

About 2 hours

Yes. It's pathetic

A couple of times. Most recent was last month.

Happened to me tonight. I think the flight is flying later or in the morning. I just booked on another flight tomorrow evening.

FAs can also time out - but only after 16h

Pilots in the military top out on flight hours all the time. When I was in the Army, I can't count the number of times that we literally had paratroopers in the process of exiting the aircraft and the red light would come on and stop the operation bc the aircrew hit their flight hours. At night flying with night vision cut their flight time significantly too.

Yea, but slightly different. We got diverted due to severe weather and couldn't go to a gate because the crew had timed out but as long as the door wasn't opened, it didn't count as us landing.

Yes that has happened to me twice. It's absolute nonsense and poor planning on the airline.

ORD to NYC?

^ getting new crew from EWR for that one

Happened to me in Hawaii. After an initial 45 minute delay on Delta. Got 35k and $150 in Amazon gift cards.
