Our experience 1. Gopeer - You can find a tutor that meets your requirement. We tried this last year for both kids (middle school and high school) 2. This year we have a local math tutor who does online sessions and a reading tutor who visits us home. Reading and comprehension is really important and I see that some kids don’t read as much as we used to

In person tutor was thru our network. Generally, the Gopeer tutors are good. They can help with specific concepts. This year we have taken up subscription for IXL. One kid annual subscription is around $150 for 4 subjects. People generally do a group buy but individual subscription is not that expensive either.

Yes, we found a math tutor (for algebra) for our middle school son. The tutor is in Texas and we are in California. He’s a good student but his math skills have not elevated at the same level for whatever reason. Critical thinking seems to be lacking and we’re hoping to fix some bad habits before it’s too late.

Off topic sorry. I have a 3 year old and am planning to move to a good school district. My assumption was as long as we are in a good school district .. education is taken care of. Am I thinking of this wrong? Is it better to just put kids is private school if we have to do tuition anyway with public schools?

Based on my experience (older son is a senior and younger one is a junior, also my wife is a teacher for high school students. Here’s my take on overall education system here in the US: As parents, we need to plan for supplemental learning. This depends on the teacher you get in school. In high school, it’s totally left to the students. Teachers will make some videos or give assignments. Sometimes kids lose interest and drop out. If they’ve taken AP course, they might switch to academic Generally, Asian (Indian, Chinese and others) parents are better prepared to deal with the situation and they (parents and students) strive hard to make the grades (A’s). You can see this in high school rankings which is dominated by Asian students. If you want personal attention, I would recommend a private school or a charter school. Also, you should be careful I’m not putting the kid into too much of academic stress. They need to have a balance of academics and sports. This is key for the kid, who would like to pursue sports along with academics.

I know this is not the question asked but as a father to kids in the same age group, I would strongly recommend trying to spend more time 1:1 with the kids. Covid has impacted the kids in ways we cannot understand and they cannot express. Make it a point to spend 30 minutes a day with them on stuff (reading, math) and watch how they respond. I was in the same situation a year ago looking for different options and then our pediatrician recommended this. It was pretty amazing. Combine it with the wonderful resources shared on this thread and it will be the best result.

Ok honest question for mothers who went through child birth — does being a mom really change your body in the long run? One of my best friends who is beautiful is thinking of getting her boobs done because as she said it “they’re just a drooping nipple now.” And I couldn’t help but just feel sad. I feel really sad that women are held to such impossible standards and also scared because I’m not a mom yet. I always wondered if it changes if sex feels good (Ie do u stretch out?). Ugh.

How do you deal with a boyfriend who is going through a rough time career wise? I've recently achieved some career milestones - things are going well for me. The opposite can be said for my boyfriend. I told him this week would be busy and I couldn't spend time with him and he's pouting and throwing a tantrum like a big baby. It's a huge turn off. Any suggestions on how to handle? He's normally pretty supportive so this recent outburst is surprising.

What brand and type of baby wipes do you all recommend?

Our school uses Foss Kits for Science and I was told when students return, we will need to sanitize all items before and after each use. This doesn’t seem possible in a middle school setting where each period has a 4 minute break and 25 students in each period. What do you do in your classroom to minimize the amount of work needed to clean and sanitize items. I don’t want to short change the students’ hands-on experiences.

How do I respond to an observation score of a II in an area where I feel the score was unwarranted? I scored III in all other areas. The score was a II because I had students working on Google Classroom & was finishing up emails before I transitioned into the classroom reading. It’s the week before midterms, and I have duty for 20 minutes of my 50-minute planning period in 1st. I have to respond to these emails in a timely manner & all students were working diligently on the first assignment.
