Dad is a veteran and mom housewife. Dad was forced to get on pension because of an almost fatal accident on the runway. So I haven't known much of material pleasures. But what I lacked in material pleasures I gained in travelling and being outdoors. You will be surprised how much fun can be had with very little. I already earn more than 5x my parents. But given that I want to make sure that my parents have everything that they ever wanted (or couldn't imagine) plus our desire to travel plus our desire for keeping the future of my kids financially, I'm not sure what's a comfortable amount
Dad came to the states when he was 15. Worked at a gas station and a couple odd jobs here and there and dropped out of high school. Now has his own HVAC business. Mom dropped out of college to become a casting director (worked with Michael Jordan pre-Space Jam) and is currently known as Chicago's top wedding makeup artist and has her own line of cosmetics. Parents always taught me the importance of having a good work ethic and I hope to instill the same values for when I have kids. Dad still says to me on a regular basis "I can't believe they pay you to work on the computer from home"
My father was a truck driver and my mother a waitress, so I don't have a clue.
My parents were both wildlife documentarians, so we traveled around a lot. Between you and me, something AMAZING happened... I rescued a shaman one day and he gave me the ability to talk to animals- it's really cool, but totally secret.
Dad was cabbie and then postal worker, mom worked in a hospital as a lab tech. Started from the bottom and I still ain't no where
Dad is a partner at a big 4 firm...was never home...I joined the family biz to try to prove to him that he could have done both
Interesting to hear, I myself came from a middle middle class family. Never wanted for anything but definitely unimpressive in terms of material possessions. I'll probably surpass my parents within 5 years, but ill still never be as great as them.
Attorney and healthcare exec. They taught me to save early, pay down debt, prioritize "fun" spend by what was important to me (travel, fun cars, etc), and don't keep-up with the Joneses because that's always a losing scenario. Based on that, I'm already on my way to achieving it.
Dad was CEO of Fortune 500. $10M+ peak earnings. Want to also become CEO but my trust fund is big enough that I don't have to work a day in my life... Grinding it out a big D feels good cuz its voluntary and I'm killin' it
Household income of 500K. Dad was a doctor and mom took care of the kids. And there's no way in going to reach their level unfortunately, even though that's the lifestyle I'm used to and that's the same lifestyle I want to expose my future children to.
Better to measure family wealth in net worth, isn't it?
Mom - High up in major bank, Dad - stay at home/volunteer
Sold illegal drugs
Mom was a college prof, dad was consultant 🙈 I have no idea how he did it for so many years
Dad is a theoretical physicist, mom a poet. My parents have no idea what the business world means in reality. I can't compare tho intellectually. my Income can't be compared to the nature of dark matter. Also i want to learn how to talk to animals.
Our family was wealthy with love.
Dad is a retired police officer and mom is a retired nurse. Watched both save aggressively, pay only with cash and pay everything off in full ASAP (homes, cars, etc.). Both are retired and living on pensions, traveling a few times a year and very happy.
Dad - Private investigator and lawyer, mom -consultant, honestly I couldn't care less if I made as much as them I just want to enjoy what I do
Pretty cool seeing the vast diversity in parenting that lead to us all doing basically the same stuff. ✈️💡💰📈
Dad was an executive VP at a big financial services firm, mom worked at the same firm. Household income $1m+. We were never a material family (most expensive car my parents ever owned was a Ford Edge, no designer clothes, etc) but what they didn't hesitate on was spending on experiences. Disney and ski trips every year, lots of pro sports events, etc. That's what I want to be able to do for my family. I don't care about owning a $300k car or $50k watch. I don't need to be quite at their level, I just want to be able to give my family the same experiences
Dad - HR officer at international corporation; mom stayed at home. And yes, I plan to get there, but I can't do it in Consulting - I want to actually come home to a family every night when I have one
I grew up poor working class. Make 3x my parents peak combined income at 29z
