Folks- I looked at a role at McKinsey for a few weeks that I thought I would be a great fit for. This is not pure strategy but more like analysis/expert type of role. Applied and didn’t get an answer but did some LinkedIn search and found the partner in charge of that group. Tactfully connected and sent him a short note on role and interest for the firm. He finally wrote back and wants to talk today. Got an idea of what my pitch will be but wondering if any advice of dos and don’ts....

Good luck. Have a clear idea of your story and what you want to know from him. Ideally, get a commitment to get you in touch with recruiter etc

like

Thanks MKC1 . Appreciate the suggestion. Planing to do just that.

Be very straightforward and talk about your main points upfront not 10 min into the call

like

It did! Just got done. You were right. We talked for 5 min. 3 very straightforward questions on what I do now. He liked it and is connecting me to the recruiter. Thanks again for the input.

You’ve had a few weeks to think about it and decided to begin prepping today?

Yup . Thanks MKC2. All prepped. Hopefully it will be a fruitful conversation.

Anyone work in UW for Axa XL?

Landed a job in NYC. As much as I want to live there and will be moving in with my partner I think the most financially savvy option is to live in Jersey city to save on the city tax. Both our salaries would definitely go up next year so moving to the city would be a huge possibility in 2022. Has anyone else started our in Jersey city first ? Is it worth it or should I just try to make it work in NYC ?
