Folks used to drool a bit over the financials of becoming a partner at a big 4 because when they retire they get a partner pension that will pay them 200-300 k per year. True? Correct numbers?

I don’t think it’s just because of the pension; you also have to take into account the fact that you make a lot more than that throughout your career and invest it. I have a guaranteed pension of $400k until I die with 10 year survival benefit plus al my other investments. It will be a good retirement.

To be honest, I think a non-partner (someone quite junior) somehow got on here because it just did not sound like a senior seasoned person.

Well this escalated quickly. WTF, that doesn't sound like most people I've ever met at Slalom. Seems like someone intentionally trying to be a d-bag. What gives OP? But yeah, no pensions here. Stock has been doing great though

It seems pensions or other deferred compensation programs are a less valued benefit in general anymore. Still, as you getting older and face the reality of retirement, you realize these are a real luxury. These financial programs not only help you retire, but also greatly impact the quality of life and experiences post-retirement (eg travel, gifting others, charities, etc).

Similar to P1. It’s a very good retirement with opportunities to create multi generational wealth.

like

I actually have no idea what my pension will be. Should figure this out

Multigenerational wealth? Please explain that further.

No - it’s because a slalom partner is not the same . There is no pension, and the slalom stock isn’t enough to grow true wealth unless you were with them 15 years ago.

like

Does slalom pay more to compensate for the lack of pension?

Wow that is a big difference when you consider partners and mds are making well over that at big 4/acn and for many, travel is quite manageable. I get why you would go to slalom as a staff consultant or manager (seems like pay is quite competitive) but why would you jump as a leader?

I want to understand why was Arthur Anderson kicked out of the audit business. I know they played a major part in the Enron scandal. But still these days we are seeing scandals happening. Someday we see EY name popping (Wirecard) KPMG or some other Big 4 but we still hold a strong position in the market. Then why didn't Arthur Anderson in accounting and audit business especially what I have learnt that it was largest among the big 5 at that time?
