Folks who left academia and returned after a long hiatus, what brought you back?

Honestly, I was just a bit bored and wanted a change of pace in my life. So far, I'm enjoying it!

I came back because the extra qualifications will help land a better job in the future. I guess my reason is not that exciting but I'm having a good time getting back into academia mode

I felt like my knowledge was sort of stagnating and I felt like it would be fun to try learning new things about my field once again.

I missed the intellectual stimulation, the opportunity to learn new things, and the camaraderie of my colleagues. I also realized that I was in a rut professionally and that I needed to reinvigorate my career.

I had become increasingly disillusioned with the corporate world and was looking for an opportunity to do something more meaningful with my career. Academia provided all of that and more.

What are the requirements for getting promoted from L6 to L7?
I am thinking of accepting an L6 offer hoping to make L7 in a couple of years (assuming I crush it). But I’m wondering since this is an IC role, I might not even be eligible for an L7 till I show ppl management at google. Any anecdotes or observations on this move from current/ex-Googlers would be great. Thank you!
FWIW, I have done extensive ppl management in my current and prior jobs

I've 6.5 yrs of experience in automation testing & agile methodology. Currently in CL9. I joined ACN with mindset that I'll move into management role after couple of years, but they put me into a project which is 100% opposite to my previous experience, both domain and techn wise. I'm planning to take up Agile Project Management role immediately (Scrum Master or PO) & my supervisor said he will help me making the shift. Is it worth for me to make this shift right now? Recently completed MBA.

Im a manager in international tax, probably a good chance I get promoted to senior manager at the end of the fiscal year. I got an offer for a senior manager position in house for international tax.
