Folks who left academia and returned after a long hiatus, what brought you back?

What are the requirements for getting promoted from L6 to L7?
I am thinking of accepting an L6 offer hoping to make L7 in a couple of years (assuming I crush it). But I’m wondering since this is an IC role, I might not even be eligible for an L7 till I show ppl management at google. Any anecdotes or observations on this move from current/ex-Googlers would be great. Thank you!

I am a business operations consultant with 4 YOE and ex-Big4 consulting. I currently work for a smaller boutique firm and though I like it,I want to eventually move into program management and out of consulting. Any tips or suggestions?

Feeling a little lost. Trying to pivot to consulting but I feel like top consulting firms won’t even interview me even though I went to a target school, got a STEM degree, and graduated only 2 yrs ago. Any advice would be appreciated!

I've 6.5 yrs of experience in automation testing & agile methodology. Currently in CL9. I joined ACN with mindset that I'll move into management role after couple of years, but they put me into a project which is 100% opposite to my previous experience, both domain and techn wise. I'm planning to take up Agile Project Management role immediately (Scrum Master or PO) & my supervisor said he will help me making the shift. Is it worth for me to make this shift right now? I'm a third year associate working at a smallish firm, thinking about going solo. Currently in defence litigation but I've wanted to do estate planning and tax law since law school but haven't had any opportunities pop up in my area. Working on applications for academic positions (tenure-track), and finding it extremely difficult to write a research statement that is not too close to my current research that hiring faculty would think I lack originality, but also not too far-fetched/unrealistic or on topics that I find interesting but has insufficient knowledge/expertise.
