None in the bank haha Everything is in investments - primarily stocks and an apartment.

Pre or post tax salary?

$50k savings, $25k investments, $10k checking, and $325k in home equity with a $140k outstanding on a home loan at 28

It makes more sense to ask “how much do you spend monthly/annually?”

My motto is to have 1-year worth of income in liquid savings (eg savings account, CoDs, some stocks) at least so that if I get laid off or other terrible circumstances arise, I have flexibility to not panic and survive until I find something new. Rest is in investments/Roth/whole life insurance/401k.

like

8% 401k (up to matching, not maxing out) 2% HSA 8-15% Savings Acct (ideally 15%) At the moment just trying to pay off my car immediately, so the cash savings is kind of in flux. I hate debt after having my student loan. Plus it would help increase my credit score. P.s. good to know I’m not the only one who dislikes 401ks as saving vehicles. But I can’t deny the matching money.

like

@SC1 is correct.

Mines almost entirely in 401k/Roth I do have a two month of expenses (~5k) saved in a checking account just in case, I’m trying to get to 5 eventually

Don’t depress yourself

Have about 50k in the bank. When I have 60k, I'll invest the surplus in stocks. Want comfortable cash on hand in case of any disasters.

70k, I stopped working in sept 2017 though

200k

It sure does depends. I save about 30-40% myself but none of it goes into savings account rather into investments. I guess it comes down to preferences of what kind of savings we all have or want to have. And oh, the salary certainly affects it after all

Self-directed IRAs. So many questions! Have any of you ever tried a self directed IRA? I’m thinking about it in relation to investing in a company (to the tune of 150-200k) or possibly purchasing a vacation property as an investment in a location we’d like to retire (if I did that, could we use it to vacation personally occasionally in the meantime? Even if we needed to pay the IRA for the rental?) Thoughts? Warnings?

Does anyone else find it difficult to ask for time off? I haven’t taken a “vacation day” since February, billed 185+ hour months consistently through the pandemic (exceeded hours for 2020 bonus eligibility), and am feeling pretty burnt out. It’s hard because other associates in my department haven’t really taken any time off either (or it has been a day or two sporadically). Would really love to take some days over Christmas to recharge but I’m nervous about perception.

I have a standing offer with Accenture (AFS). Due to coronavirus, the recruiter told me they are pausing staffing of external people like myself while they take care of internal people on the bench. My recruiter said he would touch base monthly during covid, but usually I’m the one to reach out to him. We haven’t spoken since mid March, so should I reach out? I totally understand if they’re still in the same position as before and nothing changed since mid March in terms of hiring.

Concierge emailed to ask the occasion ahead of time, and we mentioned again at valet, check in, and breakfast - haven’t gotten anything other than “congrats.” No upgrade. No information at check in re: amenities or “rituals” (e.g., 3 days in found out that there is a daily bloody Mary tasting - would’ve been nice to know). Dear 🐟 My I94 has expired and the current firm has applied for an h1b extension. But it is still pending as it was done in regular processing. I have a receipt from USCIS. I have an offer from another company, would they be able to file for an h1b transfer at this point? Would they also apply for an extension at the same time?
