FAANG Exit to MBB?
3.5 YOE, Non-technical, 150k TC
Been at Alphabet my entire career post-undergrad. Managed to move from Google to a well-respected Bet where I’m very happy. Undergrad was a pretty general liberal arts degree and haven’t pursued grad school yet.
What would it look like (from a TC + long term career standpoint) to switch over to MBB for a year or two then go back to FAANG?

Yes, hard hours but good pay, cool projects, smart people, and good access to exits
It was worth it for me but might not be worth the sacrifices for everyone. I came from PwC too FWIW (a long time ago).
It’s long tough hours - hard with a family unless your partner picks up a ton of slack. That’s why I ultimately left. Hours over time were consistently worse than my experience at PwC.
I learned an immense amount and also significantly accelerated my income trajectory. And I don’t think I would have gotten the role I have now (Corp strat), nor would I be able to be nearly as successful as I am in my role, without my Bain experience.
I really liked the people and culture at Bain but at the end of the day it’s a job and the MBB life is a grind to be sure. Would def do it again if I was starting in my mid-late 20s like I did, but now in my early 30s not something I’d be interested in starting fresh into.
Bain 1 going thru interview process now; have wife and kids. We’ve already talked about her staying at home and becoming single income to ensure some balance in life.
It’s been great to me personally. Under 10 years from college to equity partnership, great clients, great colleagues (many of whom are good friends either who are still here or who have gone on to do other things) and amazing personal growth. It’s not an easy life but I wouldn’t choose differently if I could do it over again.
