Many who repatriate are lured by a vibrant startup scene in India that is drawing unprecedented capital from venture and private equity firms and is buoyed by an effervescent market for stocks. Why is it important? You already made a decision to not live in your motherland and grow your kid in the US.
Technically, your kid’s motherland is the US.
A kid can learn up to 5 languages easily. Keep speaking it in front of them
Wow! That kid is going to be a superstar! 3 languages is amazing. I don’t have kids but my cousin did and they just spoke to him in Hindi at home as much as possible. He picked up both the languages super quickly.
We do the same. Wife speaks her mother tongue and I speak mine with our 2 year old. Me and my wife speak in English with each other. Kid identifies all 3 languages and mostly utters words in English and mother tongue because I spend less time than mom and day care taker.
My parents are comfortable speaking Urdu and it is my mother tongue. So it’s important for me that my kid can talk to my parents. At home, I only talk to her in Urdu and she’s picking up.
Just keep talking both languages to her. They will pick it up.
One of my cousin brother speaks five languages fluently at 12. Just talk to your kid in your mother tongue and he should be able to pick it up. Learning languages is always an asset irrespective of where you live.
I grew up with my mum speaking one language, my dad another and most folks in the city I grew up in another! Happily learnt three languages without any formal education. But it needs you guys to speak almost exclusively in that your respective languages to your child, which might be hard to do if you've never spoken any language other than English in your home after you got married
