Isn’t work life balance the balance between working and living? I still work more. I might not have to wake up extra early to take care of the kids but at the end of the day I’m working more. My employer also knows I don’t have kids so I’m expected to be on every single conference call when my other colleagues are not.
Sounds like you didn’t set boundaries when you started. It’s possible to start them now, but much harder than when you first start. Best of luck in your pursuit of WLB
Less work life balance. Children maybe considered “work” to you, but we need to separate paid work (must) from parent work (your choice) in the equation.
Paid work vs everything else: childless have less work life balance than employees with kids, since they spend more hours at work covering for those with kids.
Good point about separating paid work and home work
Working more automatically means less work life balance. We still have to do laundry, scrub the floors, make dinner, wash the dishes etc. some of us are single, some of us have pets that rely on us. All of my coworkers with kids have a spouse that either stays home all day with the kids, or is able to help out when the other spouse is away. So no I’d say it’s worse most of the time
Are you comparing single to married w/ kids OR comparing partnered w/o kids to married w/ kids?
More “Work/Life balance” without kids for sure. Because kids are so much f-ing work. 24/7 for the first 6+ years and then, even after they don’t need constant attention to not die, THEN they become even more messy and smelly!
Vs people without kids that only need to worry about keeping ourselves and maybe a partner, alive and moderately happy. Much more balance.
