Also, while we’re on the topic. Can we stop punishing those of us who don’t have kids with more work and travel? Just because I didn’t pop out two or three mini humans doesn’t mean I want to work more or travel away from home. /rant

How should this be balanced with better parental leave and parent flexibility benefits? What about #haveherback and all of the current conversation about making things easier for returning mother's? I tend to agree with you, the job is the job and if you decide to have kids, that's a choice you've made. On the other hand, I appreciate that my company values families (parents have a lot at stake to do a good job after all...) And tries to be flexible.

Sure. Wouldn’t be uncomfortable at all for my boss to ask me to watch their kids without fear of retribution if I say no. 🤣🤣🤣

OP - I don’t think this would fly. Seems like an HR issue waiting to happen. Why would we ask our colleagues to watch our kids so that we can work?

This sounds like an idea that needs a review and some fixing by a manager before it goes up the chain. Points for trying. Maybe we can think of a different way to help.

Uh. No. I’m a senior manager trying to work full time with a 4 year old, and I would never ask someone on my team to babysit my kid because they aren’t “busy” otherwise.

Yeah, really interested in babysitting your kids while I already have to babysit your work projects. Basically fulfills my dream during a global pandemic. Do you plan to house me at your estate and cook your meals as well, master?

Can we ask the junior folks who are interested to step outside of their job description for a few hours to help out those with kids? (Assuming everyone is social distancing otherwise, etc)

One non-terrible way to do this is for younger practitioners (think 1-2 years out of UG) to help SM/PPMD’s older kids (high school) with standardized test prep over zoom. As long as there’s good pay and no impact on performance for the analysts, could definitely see people doing this.

I’ve really been having the urge to get out of consulting lately. I’m hesitant to leave Deloitte however Bc my husband and I plan to start a family in about 2 years and I know deloitte’s 16 week parental leave policy is rare in the marketplace.
