For all that HR leaders have done to shoulder the huge responsibilities over the last 6 months, what are your organizations doing to take care of you? For all the space we hold for other people, is anyone holding space for you?

My company is a new business lead by young people, so they have actually been fantastic about this. Our boss has given us a "beer allowance" (although it can be spent on whatever we want to consume, alcoholic or not), so we can all get together on a monthly zoom call for a beer and a chat. My coworkers have also set up a company discord server where we all play games together. I find that a sense of community with my coworkers has been very helpful.

Nope not really, but I find myself being vulnerable in front of the company to help them understand it’s ok to take time off, or do things for self-care. I got approved for a week off so I guess that’s a start.

Yes it’s difficult. Especially since many of the issues we face we don’t have an outlet for. I started reaching out to my network for support since I couldn’t get it from my org

Of course not

We have a mid-sized department and host regular department meetings to keep everyone plugged in across the work. The dept Engagement Committee collects input and runs regular socials - virtual happy hours etc. I personally check in with min 3 employees a week (~12 per month) to simply say “hello”, be a soundboard, maintain contact, and remove barriers to productivity when needed.

I don’t believe my org is doing anything for hr . Most of hr Corp is working from home . My local owner makes us go physically to work. We are an essential business. I’m exhausted and expected always have a smile on my face and cheer everyone else up , including the owner. That is why I am happy to wear a mask to cover up most of my face .

Actually I was just laid off.

I was the only one. Apparently after getting them through an owners transition, relocation, and global pandemic not to mention facilitating termination of one of the owners, reducing the med insurance cost by 25% the primary owner decided he only needed me 20 hours a week. You either value me or you don’t you don’t get my brilliance for 1/2 off. One of three key employees said if they can do it to me. As valuable as I am— her words not mine— she was going to get her resume in order and focus a new job. I’ve been keeping her employed with us for over a year. She was going to leave because of how they were treating her. #goodluck

I have to take care of me. I remind my boss I need time off and he obliges. It has been a rough 6 months. Fortunately, I get happiness from other's happiness so I'm getting my reward in a weird way. I do have a few grudges towards people who aren't pulling their weight. Not sure how that will play out.
