If you are viewing this through the lens of a melanin content checklist, you have missed the point of Dr. King.
One of the main hurdles is the credentialing fetishism that still persists in the corporate world, and the financial moat it creates around a certain class level. It is a mid-20th century model which has outlived its usefulness. Folks in a hiring position just need to get their heads around the new reality. Do you really care that your programmers know Chaucer? Is your accountant’s knowledge of Freudian therapy pertinent to what you need them to do? Let’s stop pretending that a well rounded education is valued and recognize that it is ALL vocational training.
Look at the mayors running the majority of the large us cities (high black populations). Look at the LA Clippers (black coach). Should white people be up in arms?
Unfortunately, we live in a society where we tend to stick with people who look like us. This is not a “white” trend. I would even argue white people are probably far less to associate with people based on race than other groups. One group is always going to get the short end of the stick.

D2 Booo 🍅...That's like saying bc Frederick Douglass became a successful author and statesman that slavery was overblown and he was too privileged to speak about it. A few success stories doesnt nullify the majority of others impacted by inequality.
What do you expect everyone to resign overnight?
@MD1, you cannot compare America to countries in Asia / Europe. America is different because we are made up of multiple ethnicities / races. That isn’t true for most countries in Asia or Europe. Therefore, America should naturally have more minority representation in leadership.
Meritocracy may not yet exist in other countries, but why shouldn’t it exist first in America? Is that not what America has strived to do, act as a beacon of leadership for other countries to follow?
Age adjusted, is this far from their portion of their cohorts? Majority ethnic groups typically hold majority of power, question should be relative representation

Elizabeth Warren, Harvard Law's first woman of color hire doesn't belong in that graphic. She's a minority.

And before people are like: “But white people are a majority!” Non-Hispanic Whites constitute ~60% of the population.
A better metric, however, would be representation relative to merit.
UC Berkeley doesn’t have affirmative action and whites constitute ~25% of the student body. Using Berkeley as a (very) rough gauge/approximation for the distribution of talent in society, then white people are severely over represented in power relative to their merit.
@MD1 that is racist... not attending a school because of race of student pop is definition of racist
I want to see this objectively. America is 76.3% white according to the US census bureau so a 3.7% difference isn’t much of a difference though it can be better. I am not white just in case this view is seen as biased. But something needs to be done about the overwhelming white male majority because that’s not a reflection of the US demography.

@Mck I’m pretty sure no liberals imply or say that black people should be 50% of all positions in power. Nice strawman though

As stated above the nation is 60% non-Hispanic white. We’re also 18-20% immigrants. If this is such a racist hell hole why do so many people want to come here?
I don’t know what the ‘right’ number is, but this is a very subjective assertion made in the article.

It's also interesting to see who benefits the most from affirmative action...
I am black and white people have been very instrumental in my professional growth. So I will say there are some white people that are kind and those that are.... you know the rest. You can only tell the difference by their actions.

What if we were all just minorities as individuals rather than members of large monolithic blocks that supposedly think the same and have the same issues? Just a thought.
Chief
We are all individuals. And there’s no minority as endangered as the individual.
Well, for those that want to say academic achievement should match work success, look at all the academic achievers who drowned in the unknowns and chaos of the work world.

For my undergrad there was. The applications had a firm GPA cutoff on the career services portal when applying.
I had a 3.6 in a hard science and everyone else who had a less than a 3.9 was pretty much autorejected.
It may vary by office. But I can tell you at BCG in the northeast system, no associate hire from college I know of has a GPA below the 3.8 range.
Trump has appointed 150+ judges and 0 are people of color!

Dr. MLK was correct!! color of skin is unimportant. And favoring any race over another is racism.
And Affirmative action IS RACISM.
Woo go white men!!! We rock!

And the articles about how the NFL is finally dominated by black people. Why’s everything have to be about race? It seems like a jujitsu match where there can be only one winner. Articles like this confirm that point.

There's also a particular demographic of the people in OP's article that is vastly overrepresented that is conspicuously being ignored.
