You just got to do it - tbh. I’m highly introverted, hate large group gatherings, but one thing that I always do is just ask questions about the person I’m networking with. People love to talk about themselves, all you need to is listen and ask questions where necessary. If you continue to do that it’ll come naturally!
Have real conversations then.
You’re in the wrong line of work if you can’t make talk with people.
Sorry, but we’re consultants and we need to be able to sell work and create relationships.
Honestly, as an introvert who excels in consulting, this is just stereotypical and unhelpful. Introverts bring value to consulting, also. We are often better listeners and have skills that balance out the extroverts. Either type can be successful in this industry.
I’m an extrovert. It’s still exhausting. Based on your comment though, stop making fake conversations. If you’re authentic, it’s less tiring. Go into the conversations having done background on the person (either through existing connections, past projects, creeping LinkedIn), then you can have more give and take conversationally
The research is key. Have a bilateral reason your reaching out. They can help you (eg learn something) and you’re happy to lean in on their effort. Or you’ve done something that you think Can help them on a project they’re working through now
