As a manager, I check everything. I keep an eye on the deliverables as well as the staff and make sure everything gets done, correctly and timely. If you want to act rude, or passive aggressive. I will no longer work with you, on your shit client that will send the information a week before the deadline. When you end up with a manager that doesn’t look at anything, doesn’t care and leaves you with all the work, you will regret being rude to me. I put in an honest days work, I ask for respect.

Curious why anyone thinks they’d be laid off with the staffing shortages as they are currently.

Because people know there is a staffing shortage and don’t perform as well thinking they won’t get let go and lower performance because they also don’t like their job. Some firms are better off letting go of low performers even in this environment.
It’s hard to leave tax when it’s not on your terms. If I was laid off I would feel like I need to get another tax position to tide me over despite how much I loathe it. I’m in the process of thinking about what I really want to do with my life, if I’ll need more education and how to finance the switch.
Scenario generation for a large bank’s stress testing group.
Whatever comes in first I believe, I'm trying to leave tax but if Iose my job I'll get whatever comes in first.
I personally would not, my financial situation requires me to have a job, so I'd apply to whatever I think I can do. If I was better off I'd probably take more time to transition off to a different function.
I’d use my severance and unemployment benefits to start my own tax firm
