what does saving and retiring have to do with socialism and Bernie Sanders? I'm pretty sure you don't know how socialism works

like

And I know you're about to be like "I'm not talking about Denmark I'm talking about Venezuela" but honestly Bernie's reforms have a lot more in common with creating a state like Denmark than a stare like Venezuela

like

Feel The Bern > MAGA. Also, are you familiar with what socialism is? We already have forms of it in this country.

Vice President 1: I think our K-12 Public Education System is Socialist in essence, but not totally there’s oversight and although it’s not perfect education it’s important and it’s better to have educated citizens. Some states have free community college which I think is a great idea with the right oversight in place. It still allows for private K-12 and Universities to practice and profit, and it’s beneficial to our country. As a business we should want access to hire smart people and not just those who were able to afford an education (There’s dumb/lazy people with degrees). The “checks and balances” and oversight is important for Democratic Socialism in my eyes because there has to be a balance and rules. I’m logical - I’m personally an Independent and am for welfare reform and tightening up the rules and encouraging those able to return to work and be contributors to our country. Welfare is a Socialist in essence program, but it needs more controls and rules in place to be successful. That said, my view on welfare is a more Conservative approach to a Democratic Socialist program. I’m going to get a headache with all these labels.

JPMC1: good points. We could add social security on that list as an example of a "socialist"- like program. But I think we can both agree that such programs run the long term risk of mismanagement , inefficiencies, and unsustainability. Ex. Social security. That's one of many reasons why there has been decades long shift to transition retirement from government (social security) and companies (defined benefit) to individuals (401k and iRA). Nonetheless, most would agree that some social safety net programs are needed because it supports the fundamental American values of life, liberty (includes private ownership and economic freedom), pursuit of happiness. Here's the main difference between democratic socialist and socialist. Democratic socialism took hold after WW1 and socialist Eugene Debs. In simple terms, it supplants private ownership for social ownership of key industries and means of production. It is predicated upon fair, democratic institutions and elections. (Equality in a democratic state). Socialism has the same tenet but its focus is on the system of collective ownership and means/distribution of resources. The democratic state is secondary. While on the surface both theories appear different, they are in fact very similar.

@VP1 I’ve lived in japan for many years, my brother and his family current live there. They pay a fifteenth what we pay in the US for most healthcare procedures, he saves for retirement and owns a home... you’re fear of socialism is based entirely in ignorance and Breitbart-inspired dipshittery. No one wants to live in a country completely under the control of an oppressive state, if you think what Bernie was promoting is at all similar then you’re just as dumb as you claim the opposition to be (disclaimer: I voted HRC and think Bernie misses the mark, but I feel like your attacks on Denmark and other pseudo-socialized countries requires calling out).

Great! Glad some of you are no longer "Berning " . #socialismsucks. #coolthebern

^a lot, MS1. You would know this if you are a student of economics. Take an Econ course, read some Finance books, and live in a socialist country, then come back and share your insight.

^lol, go live/visit Denmark from more than a year. Then report back on your experience. The law of Jante is nothing to be romanticized, kiddo.

Bernie isn’t really a “Socialist”, he is just labeled as one. Bernie is a Democratic Socialist, and we have many “socialists” programs in the U.S. Is it a perfect system - no, but nothing is ever perfect. Trust, that no one logical (including Bernie) is against individual success and achievement.

JPMC1: you raise an interesting counter, in an intelligent manner. I concede, no system is perfect. In that point, You are right. But, I think we can agree that some systems are better suited to uphold a country's values better than others. That said, what do you consider the difference to be between a democratic socialist vs a socialist? Also, if a program (a means) is characterized as "socialist" , is that the same as saying the system is "socialist" in essence/philosophy (an end)?

BAML: you "feel my attacks"? You should first better manage your emotions because your "feelings" resulted in your misunderstanding and misinterpretation. Saying "the law of Jante is nothing to be romanticized" is a point of difference, not a attack on country/countries. You would have intelligently picked up on this nuance is you weren't so easily triggered and quick to label any point of view you do not agree with as "dippshittery". Not sure what Japan has to do with this. Read some Econ then come back to the discussion table when you have calmed your emotions and readied yourself with intelligent counters .

@VP1 Read some Econ? You realize there is socialist economic theory, right? Clearly you’ve never “read some Econ” yourself. Japan, a socialist country, has everything to do with this discussion. How’d you make it to VP as such a dipshit?

I’m a third year tax associate with my LLM. I left the IRS for a small boutique M&A firm that had a great reputation in my region. I have been at the firm for 3 weeks and I just found out that 2 of the 4 partners are leaving and taking a bunch of the senior associates with them. The only tax partner is leaving to go in-house and semi retire. I am going to be the only tax associate at the firm. So what’s the play here, look for a way out as fast as possible or ride it out for the time being?
