For anybody curious about moving to Asia, Vietnam specifically, and what it’s like working in a corporate job, I just started a personal blog to share my experience. I’m a Viet Kieu (vietnamese person that grew up overseas) and this is my first time living in Asia. Any consulting moms on a part-time (~3 day) schedule? Have a question to Asians here. I’m mid-30s from Asia and am making lower end of 6 figures currently. My older sister was making more than I did until a few months back and lost one job due to covid so is now not making much. But she is married and has a house and a car of her own. She spends a lot of money on herself and buys gifts to her boyfriends/lovers. I just found out mom is going through major surgery in my home country and it costs nearly 6k. I asked if she wanted us to help her pay.

I felt confused when I saw Buttigieg’s name on the speaker list at DNC convention and no name of Yang anywhere. (Pointing PB out because he was mayor of South Bend, elected with very few votes). The speaker list was long.. so many people yet not a single Asian American was there. I was so confused. And some people said Asians are not in their head because Asians do not fit their box. I am glad he said something about it and got added but feel not so great he was omitted initially.. meh 🙄

Anyone’s at the ASCEND convention in DC this weekend?

I have worked 6 years in the midwest and have found it nearly impossible to built mentorship and strong work relationships with senior white people (both genders) above age 45 who are US born and bred, the WASPy kind. I can never find a way to network into their "groups". Yet I've been able to build awesome relationships with senior people and mentors who are Indian, Asian, Brown and European white. Is this in my head, or have some of you experienced the same?

Not a happy post, but here to seek the Asian perspective/advice. The story is: I was raised by my grandparents in China while parents came to the US. When I was 10 I moved here to be with parents, when they neglected me for years (no food in house, dad left us for a bit, etc). When I started working, parents started emotionally manipulating me for money. I finally cut them out of my life. My grandparents don’t understand why I refuse to see them, it’s created a strain in my relationship…cont

Have a great relationship with my mom and would honestly consider moving back home to invest aggressively in this market, but dad is still stuck in the mindset of I got my bread from nothing you should do the same. I’m starting my first job as a new grad tmr in an industry role (ignore my title that was years ago at an internship). This is an experienced hire role so they probably will not “babysit” me even though I’m a fresh grad. What are some useful advice or keys in being successful for your first job? Any insights in particular to industry roles? What about for new grads starting in non-new grad roles? Thanks a lot

Anyone here have parents with small businesses? I understand the language barrier, but my dad refuses to apply to loans / grants because it’s too much work. I am more than willing to help, but he has such a dismissive attitude and expects me to do magically do everything.
