For anyone who has left Edelman, did you have any regrets? I’ve worked at the company for almost 5 years (Intern - SAE), and feel like I’ve reached my mental health breaking point and am totally burnt out and need to take a break, but I’m nervous to leave and be unsure of what comes next…

i never worked at Edelman but I have chosen to never regret leaving any prior workplace for any reason, especially not for taking care of myself. if you're at an SAE and were at Edelman, you'll be fine no matter where you end up. but your mental health is what matters the most

Left recently and felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Felt the same way you did and couldn’t be happier I put myself first.

Actively trying to jump. It’s a total shitshow and Richard just said some idiocy on a townhall implying women need to RTO in order to compete and stay relevant at their jobs. So, there’s that….

Return to office

Lol no. I left Edelman to go in house and it was the best decision. I will say I went from an SAE to a more junior level position in house, but it’s still way more money, better benefits, and a great environment to learn. Also when shit hits the fan, we all share the misery and help each other - there’s no toxic CYA or throwing anyone under the bus because VPs are stressed or we are worried about looking bad in front of clients.

likeupliftinghelpful

Curious how this went for you…I am an SAE and hoping to go in-house eventually. Did you feel that there was a large learning curve? I am actively taking online masters courses to hopefully set myself up for success in a move like this but not sure I could be doing more to market myself to these companies. I certainly know I want to switch focus a bit (currently I’m health and would love to be in something more fashion/consumer) so I imagine that’ll be a hurdle

If you are looking to consider other option, dm me. I can share why I left past agencies + why I’m at Hotwire now.

One big thing is its sabbatical policy. 5 years is a long time to continually work. At Hotwire they have a 4 year sabbatical policy. Meaning, every 4 years you get 6 weeks off. And it is perfect!

6 weeks sounds bomb!

Hearing things are in an upheaval over there and several people are leaving. I’m with a PR agency and we are looking for an SAE if you are interested.

likehelpful

tbh when is it never in an upheavel at edelman!

like

My only regret was that I didn’t do it sooner. People at my new job are constantly asking me if the Edelman horror stories are true (they are) and how I did it for so long (3 years). I’ve worked at several agencies and can firmly say Edelman was the most toxic and damaging to my overall being.

Run, don’t walk.

Not sure of your location, but I used to work at Edelman and I’ve found WLB at Sunshine Sachs. We’re hiring for lots of roles. Check it out and let me know if you want an intro!

No regrets!!! I jumped for a higher salary, more senior position, and have a MUCH better work life balance. Went from working 65+ hours/week as an AE to 40 hours/week as an SAE. Jump ships :)

likeuplifting

Also left. No regrets. After years of excellent reviews and no promotion I jumped and only after leaving did I truly realize the negative energy that place encourages. Oh and I also got a 25% salary bump at my next spot.

likehelpful

You should make a move - 5 years is a long time to be at any agency, especially so early on in your career.

leaving was the best thing I ever did for myself personally or professionally

It never occurred to me that anyone would want to stay there. I’ve never heard anyone say a nice thing about Edelman so I’ve actively avoided it.

Just here to also say effffffff Edelman. Almost ruined my career accepting an offer there.

I left Edelman after 9 months— I just needed a different environment. So you are not alone in making a bold change. I work at a women-led health agency, so get in touch if this sounds interesting!

Your happiness and well-being is worth more.

No regrets. None. My career was stalled there. Take the leap!!

I left after 1.5 years at the AE level. It wasn’t the right fit and I knew from day one. It was affecting my performance and I knew I wasn’t doing my best. I’m glad I did. I saw so much toxicity there. A very senior person flirted with more junior girls. And I wasn’t learning!

likehelpful

None. Grateful for the professional experience and the good people I worked with and learned from (there are many). But wasn't the culture for me. In my experience, could be overly toxic, cliquey, and CYA with too little value placed on on people management. Much happier after leaving. Weigh your options carefully, but at the end of the day 5 years is a solid tenure. Trust yourself and your gut and your ability to succeed elsewhere!

I left after growing from Intern-SAE there for a few reasons, but mainly because I felt my team still subconsciously saw me as an intern (especially reflected in my pay 🥴 compared to other SAEs who were coming in). I went to smaller agencies and while I definitely see some pros in leaving, I constantly miss the resources and just smart people at Edelman and talk about going back all the time when I’m financially stable/have less financially-tied responsibilities in my personal life and ready to push myself professionally again.

Just wanted to share an update with this group that I put in my two weeks yesterday and received an offer I’m truly excited about. All of the support in your responses really validated my feelings and encouraged me to make the decision to leave, so thank you!

Hello,
Anyone here willing to give me a referral for a claims position, or even refer me to some jobs that you recommend. A remote position, preferably not a call center, I really love insurance and actually want to process or investigate to handle claims. I am a fully licensed producer (PA) and also have my Florida adjusters license. My current role is Complex Claims Specialist at StateFarm. (I was unable to update my job description because my company blocks this email) Thanks In Advance!!!

Currently on on a day where I literally got back from A&E and I’m probably going to work overnight on a closing (and no, it’s neither the partners’ nor clients’ fault, this is government dictated). We have resource but nobody with enough deal knowledge so it’s two people trying to get everything out while two first years wait on our instructions but can’t do much.
