For anyone who is in the Financial Services niche for audit, do you think fund admin at a 20%-25% pay bump is a good exit move as you hit senior? My firm has some solid clients and decent exposure but we’re forced to work on Employee Benefit Plans in the summer and I feel that hinders professional growth

Working on ebps doesn’t hinder.. u can take audit knowledge from there and apply to financial services

Working on a fund is not the end all be all... It’s not a great idea to Ailey have the financial services mindset even for when you want to leave..

Fund admin / accounting is a dead end. You'll get a pay bump initially but future increases will be way smaller and professional growth is limited; it's also IMO a sector that will be highly impacted by automation in the coming years. I'd suggest thinking about staying in PA a bit longer, i.e. until manager, and then moving to an industry role, one that will be more senior, rewarding professionally speaking and with more upward potential in the long run.

I’ve been sold on the idea that exit ops out of admin are easier to get directly to a fund. Is that not true?

like

Why not go for a HF or PE rather than a fund admin? Always tons of fund accountant positions out there and highly paid.

If you have your CPA and two years of experience in FS you will be able to get plenty of interviews at HF/PE. Fund admin seems like a dead end to me.

As long as you're not working busy season hours hours on ebps, I would take the experience and use it to work on soft skills that will help on all clients, which will help you during busy season. Every job has a part you don't like. And ebps get more interesting the higher level you are/ you get experience with some cray clients, which is also good for soft skills

I have a salary range in mind for a new role based on online research and target increase from my comp now. But my research shows the data points are for salaries in HCOL areas. Do I need to adjust what I ask for if it’s a remote role and I’m not in HCOL city? Don’t want to overshoot and lose a great opportunity.
