For Baby #2, do you feel like the first six weeks were easier than with Baby #1 simply because you better understood what you were dealing with? And that the crazy no-sleep period *does* end?

It's harder but you're better equipped to handle it.

Yes! To both. Truthfully, that answer really depended on the day. Definitely knowing that the total and complete bout of sleep deprivation would eventually end (or at least subside) was reassuring. I found my second was so different from my first that there were a whole new set of challenges to work through. At the same time, some things were easier and I was a lot less hesitant leaving the house with him. I NEEDED to get out. I also found I learned how to set up my support system better the second time around and therefore had help and advice more readily available for the new challenges. I was also much more willing to ask for help with kid 2.

Or is it harder because now you have two babies (or a baby and a toddler) to take care of?

harder bc of baby#1, but also all my symptoms were worse the second time around.

I found second kid to be easier than the first, particularly in terms of sleep, but that could have just been luck. I was also way more eager to get out of the house with the second. I found it really necessary to have someone else be responsible for the toddler though, because I just did NOT have energy to deal with toddler, especially when I first came home from the hospital. Whether that person is your partner or grandparents, make it fairly explicit so that you don't have to worry about keeping the toddler entertained while you're trying to keep the baby alive and recover yourself.

It was easier because I was more confident and there wasn’t quite as much I felt clueless on. And breastfeeding was much easier But my second was just a more difficult baby, so even though I was better equipped to handle it, it felt just as hard.

I have a friend who lives a couple thousand miles of me who just had a baby, emergency c-section a couple weeks ago. Putting together a small care package to send to them, and I want to make sure it is mostly items for her and her husband. Any suggestions on things you wished people had done/gotten for YOU or your partner after having a baby instead of just more baby stuff?

Hi mommas. Slowly weaning 4 month old from breast milk and wanting to move to only formula by 5 months. I know lots of people get formula shipped from Europe but that seems too much of a hassle. What US formula are you using? We’ve tried happy baby organics and Bobbie and I’m not sure which one is better (debating if having probiotic is a plus or no). Any thoughts welcome!

So, what if your kid is in a 6 person Montessori class with no interaction outside of their “pod”, serious disinfection and prevention practices and all the other parents are super socially conscious and aware. 2 teachers per classroom and no infections during summer school on campus. Yay or nay?

My husband and I are expecting and both of us have moms diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD.) My dad passed away earlier this year and my FIL lives in Australia and is the nicest man. He’s just far away from us since we’re based in the NE. My therapist says your family doesn’t have to be blood related but I can’t help but feel sad our baby won’t have grandparents or a similar type of figure easily accessible/ nearby. Can anyone relate and/or have a similar situation?

Help!? Have 100k in cash (had been <stupidly> conservative about investing while paying loans). 90k addl. coming in to invest on annual basis going forward (what’s left of base + bonus after taxes, maxing 401k, and all expenses), which mostly comes in end of year bonus (55-60k post tax) and rest monthly (3kish a month). Only big goals are buying house (~$1.25M ballpark) in ~3yrs, contribute to 529 (plan for 1 kid) and maximize long term net worth potential. How would you approach it all?

Guilty! Being the interviewee recently has taught me what I failed to do as an interviewer. 1Outline your hiring process/timeline. Simple but oft overlooked. Tell them how many people they’ll be meeting, when u aim to shortlist, when u aim to hire. Communicate- someone is probably intensely waiting for any word. They may miss other opportunities for u. 2 Closure! Surprising how many places don’t let u know when they’ve moved on from u! 3 Can u offer helpful advice for them? 4 Reply to all.
