For MBB/T2 people considering /entering PE, have any of you strongly considered the operating side vs the deal side? What do you view as the key pros and cons of each?

Recently got laid off. Looking to transition into data science (I am good with Excel, used to program a bit in C++, can use Tableau / Looker). Any advice on how to best 1) train myself up and 2) market myself for these roles?
