Mat leave offered through CA disability runs concurrently with EY’s 16 weeks (full pay Cheque). After that, you can take an additional 8 week through CA’s family leave program (unpaid leave of absence at EY). Finally you take your vacation time which under the new policy is automatically 3 weeks. Best of luck!

Thanks, this is super helpful!

I can’t answer your question but as a fellow adoptive mom wanted to send some support your way! Hope your wait for a placement is short! You never know when it will happen. We waited a year but then found out about our son and two days later he was in our home! So you really just never know and you’re wise to be getting ready!

Thank you! When my parents adopted me they had 2 weeks notice, and only 1 day with my brother, so I’m definitely trying to be as “ready to go” as possible. It’s exciting and nerve-wracking haha

It’s a combination of the CA FMLA, baby bonding, SDI, company maternity benefits, and then using accrued PTO. There is a calendar the leave of absence people use to piece the coverage periods together - and the periods don’t overlap. I am not at EY but I have been through the CA maternity leave process and I took about 6 months off. Good luck through the adoption process!

I am currently on maternity leave. I missed utilization targets because of travel restrictions and was not rated highly for my performance last year. I am concerned I could be laid off when I return or before - my federal and state protection for pregnancy has ended. This is making me very anxious and not letting me enjoy my bonding time with my little one. Any advice on how I can change my mindset or be more calm is much appreciated. Thanks!!

I work with several people with kids and I have noticed quite often that they completely disregard any issues of people with no kids and try to one up work life imbalance conversations with stories of them being parents. It must be hard being a parent but I don’t think people at work should be treated differently or given any additional consideration just because they have a kid. You already get parental leave so If I’m expected to work 12hr I ask the same to be expected from my peers with kids.

My so is the only kid and he was sure about receiving a decent inheritance from parents as well as aunt+uncle. The thing is he always told me explicitly his priority is to take care of his parents, then aunt+uncle, then the daughter of this aunt+uncle with his wealth and future inheritance (becomes the family money manager). In a way that it makes me feel very low in his priority esp that we’ve started talking about a future together. How would this affect your future financial planning? 💡

I’ve really been having the urge to get out of consulting lately. I’m hesitant to leave Deloitte however Bc my husband and I plan to start a family in about 2 years and I know deloitte’s 16 week parental leave policy is rare in the marketplace. I have this problem that I picked up from my father growing up: can’t effectively communicate negative feelings to people that I’m close with. I sort of expect them to know, and when they don’t get it or don’t show efforts that I’m expecting to receive, I start to distance myself from them and shut down. I started to reflect back on why I do this, and sense that this is some kind of a sick way of showing I have more power over the other person. How can I fix this?

Just got an offer at ACN as a Strategy Manager and HR made it clear that parental leave was 2 weeks fully paid for men. Theoretically up until 12 weeks is covered by NY State ($900 weekly). What would you do? Have you seen men take a few months off for parental leave in consulting even if unpaid?

Currently a few weeks left on parental leave and have had a potential opportunity come up with a smaller firm that I think makes more sense for my career goals. The question I have is: assuming I get an offer and the details work out, how do I navigate leaving? Should I provide notice right away? Go back to my current firm for a couple weeks and then give notice? I certainly don’t want to burn bridges. How would you feel on the other side?

We can make complaints for a team of staff and admin to try to correct, but cannot name specific people. I know for a fact a parent has already made 2 complaints this year, but I feel like more has to be brought up.
