For new college grads who want to go into consulting but couldn’t make the cut this year, how much longer do we wait before we are eligible to apply as “experienced hire”? For most mbbs I know it’s ~1 of work experience required, what about big 4 or 2nd tier consulting firms?

There’s a technical answer and a practical answer. Typically, the technical answer is 1 year. The practical answer is as long as it takes to acquire some experience that makes you a materially different candidate than you were the last time.

Yes, that makes sense thank you. This is the correct answer for MBB I suppose. But I also heard that for Big 4 like Deloitte, you can work for 2 months at a random job and then lateral in as entry level?

“Most mbbs”

Why???

You’re getting hired as an A1 at BCG even if you did 2 years of investment banking at GS/JP. I think it’s better to try and lateral earlier rather than later

I was in a similar position. Took a boutique job and re-recruited this year instead of masters. Got MBB final round (no offer this year sadly, but improvement from last year) and T2 offer. Obviously have to be more selective where you apply because it’s difficult to have endless appointments ~1 month into career. But saves a lot of money not doing masters, plus earning a salary for a year.

2 years min, 1 year they might still consider you at the analyst level

I got hired at KPMG as an experienced hire with just over 1.5 YOE

That’s quite a long time. Where were you at before?

I moved from B4 to industry accounting about 5 years ago. I currently work as a corporate accounting manager at a software company. I recently hired an big 4 audit senior right out of public and I’m struggling to get him up to speed. Does anyone have an example of reasonable vs unreasonable expectations for a senior accountant moving to industry after 2-3 years at B4 audit?

Started in industry two weeks ago. No timesheets, 40 hour work weeks, and 30% more than what I was making previously. We use all B4 for everything, so it’s just managing their work and budgeting. I feel like I have hit the jackpot. Moral of the post: there is none, I just want to brag about how happy I am now 😂

I really do not understand my company's attendance policy. No sick or personal time and each time you have unscheduled PTO it's considered an occurence. Its super restrictive and during a pandemic you risk people coming to work sick spreading what could potentially be Covid. I just don't get it. I understand they are running a business but it just shows you really don't care about your employees at all but yet you want them to care about this company and the work being done here.
