For Non Americans in the US...I’m trying to activate a phone plan and they need to see ID. I have my SSN and a Canadian passport, but they only accept US passport. Any advice?

Why the hell would they not accept a Canadian passport? What is their reasoning?

Get an ID at your DMV?

like

3 Step Process in the US to get a Govt ID for Foreigners:
1) Go on Social Media and type something that will be picked up by authorities
2) Meet men in Black Suits
3) Presto: You are provided with a Govt ID and hosing for a while

Don’t get me started on this ridiculousness. This not accepting foreign passports will happen over and over again with different items. Just bite the bullet and go to the DMV and get your ID. I don’t have a driving license so I just got a non-driving ID. Make an appointment, have your documents ready. Just do it, especially if you are planning to be here.

Subscribe 100%. Only issue being that right now many DMVs are still closed or operating at reduced capacity, but otherwise it’s definitely worth it

Shouldn’t your EAD card work if you have one?

like

In theory it should, but good luck with that. Failed repeatedly, both in places that definitely should accept it (including TSA; I wish I were joking) and whenever the “foreign ID” objection came up in more relaxed settings (getting beer at a game).

I don’t have a US drivers license either

Do you have a electricity bill/bank statement? Pretty sure they should accept that along with your passport.

Go to another carrier I used an Australian passport and it was fine!

Call back, likely a lazy agent.

Get Google fi. It's easy

Even more reason- it's made for international calling since it works almost everywhere the same way it does in the US. I've heard good things

They should accept it, you are just dealing with a dumb person or someone who was given dumb guidance by a dumb supervisor. Go to another carrier or different store for same carrier.

While this might not be a viable option for this specific problem, some States issue non-driver ID that is READ ID compliant (great for TSA as it fits in your wallet so you don’t have to carry your passport with you every week). Also helps with buying booze and life in general, even in cases where you should be able to use your ID from home or your foreign passport. I have one and it’s massively convenient.

I have interview lined up with Impetus as for now. Would it be better choice?
