Indian here and in America I donât think anyone really cares, at least in my experience. Yeah there are parents that pressure their kids to marry in their caste or whatever but most kids born and raised here donât care. Even in big cities in India it doesnât matter. I came to the states from Delhi and over there, your caste is your wealth and status in society not what last name youâre born with.
Iâll say this though op, America is way more egalitarian than India no doubt about it. Itâs way easier for a poor person of any background to climb the ladder than India.

It depends. Official caste system has been gone for years but the systemic damage its done is still there just like post-emancipation and later post-apartheid America.
It's been more of an anecdote in my experience but you have to remember how the waves of immigration have changed over time as well as where you end up (integrated vs. ethnic enclave). Whereas before it was more individuals moving for various jobs across the country, I could absolutely see in a city and industry being rapidly flooded with Indian tech talent that assimilation is slower and old habits are reinforced.
It's still alive and well in certain communities, the fact they've immigrated to the US hasn't changed it. I was shocked that someone litigated on caste discrimination in the US but I wasn't surprised that the discrimination happened.
I've come across many Brahmins (the highest caste ) who tend to be very aware of their heritage / lineage but I don't think they necessarily have a problem marrying outside their caste.
Btw - I'd add this has been my experience. Im sure there are others that haven't seen it or been oblivious to signs
