For Parents: what are some child related expenses you wish you would have started saving earlier for?

This is a good post. I started a 529($200/month each) and allowance($3/wk) for both my kids as soon as we found out about my wife being pregnant. I’m curious about what other parents are doing.

I just wish someone told me how expensive daycare and anything catered to babies.

like

EVERYTHING!!! lol.

Honestly, start putting away what you can now. Day to day, month to month expenses like supplies, daycare/childcare etc mount up. And starting a 529 now is prob a good idea.

Even if you're not yet a parent, setting the money aside now and learning to live on the reduced amount is good practice.

like

Daycare!!!!! People always talk about how expensive college is, but I was never warned about daycare cost

like

I cannot stress this enough — Childcare in big cities cost more than some colleges.
Chicago Rivernorth/Streeterville: $1800/month
The we Moved to FL: $1200/month
Start a 529 plan: setup automatic deduction from your bank account and have those auto invest in aggressive plan at the beginning
FL residents: Sign up for Florida college plan — tuition, room and board guaranteed under the plan if you go to a FL college

Also... If you go the nanny route, be aware that you'll probably want to have some preschool as well, from about age 2. Don't know if it's more rooted in big (expensive) cities, but we found ourselves paying for a full time nanny and half day preschool. ADDS UP!!!!

Preschools in NYC run $15k - $35k ish, per year. FUN!!

@BCG - it's insane :( With no family/support, it's a catch 22 - have to spend the money to work... to earn the money... to spend on childcare.

Yes, our combined higher income does make it possible - but that's also down to being "older" (either side of 40), and having worked our butts off for years to get to this point, and having kids only then.

These are all good call outs. I wish I saved for childcare expenses. It’s about 15k/ year for one child. What we do now is, my wife pays monthly while I save the same amount in a high interest (1.7% online savings account). Need to start the childcare fund at work though.

Hi, I know this isn't the place to seek tax advice. I haven't sold a car so this doesn't apply to me just yet, but was curious on the overall topic and people's experiences if they've dealt with this.
If I bought a car and sold it for less than the initial purchase price, would I pay taxes on the difference between the sale price and cost basis? If so how would I determine my basis in such a rapidly depreciating asset? Trying to decide if selling is worth the potential hassle. TIA

Got the call from an AD - DJ41 blue dial, jubilee, smooth bezel - no purchase history. I’m not in love with the smooth bezel and put in an offer on a house 2 days ago so I’m just not in a position for this, aside from the fact that I don’t love the smooth bezel. Also have my name down for OP and sub. Is turning this down going to decrease my chances of getting another call later on down the line?

Calling all Loan Originators!!! I've been in the mortgage industry for 5 years now (3 years as a Realtor, 2 as a loan originator).

Last years rates, anyone could have done well. You didn't have to sell a mortgage, people just applied.

With the market where it is today, what are some of you doing to counter the "rates are too high" comment from buyers?

I've gone back to my SOI and have been getting some deals and referrals to keep me afloat but would love to hear some of your Best Practices.

My parent ended up in an emergency room and is admitted to a hospital. They need a surgery for broken leg. I requested hospital transfer but current hospital refused to transfer my parent to another hospital of our choice. They said they can discharge us to rehab or home (home is apparently against medical advice now). How can I leave this place and go to the hospital of our choice? Ask for discharge and transportation home and then from there call 911 and ask to be taken to requested hospital?🙏🏻

2. How good is WLB at TW for a Lead Consultant? Approx working hours on a daily basis?
3. How flexible is TW for WFH?
