I’ll go first. I never had an issue with my mental health impacting my job to the degree I would have been disciplined by the bar though, so sorry if I’m no help! I think some people may not understand they need help. I think that’s the biggest issue . I don’t think we do well as a society to point out symptoms of depression and addiction nor do we have enough check ins with people. Supervisors at work aren’t trained to issue spot these things or pay attention enough. A lot of this stuff could be stopped early if supervisors checked in more often on WHY something happened verses it just didn’t happen and it’s bad work product. We try to separate personal life and work a lot but tbh they are one in the same. My job doesn’t define me, but it’s very much a part of who I am and impacts me outside of work. Additionally, I think the bar need to have workshops around issue spotting for people in law firms. The bar should post an FAQ as well letting people know what they should do, what are remedial measures on can take, etc.

Yes. I think the legal field doesn’t do a great job with having difficult conversations and during those convos is where you can establish a relationship and also know when someone is exhibiting signs of depression or other mental health issue.
