For people who have made the transition from T2 to MBB post MBA was it worth it? Was it a waste of time? What did you learn from Mbb that you didn’t at T2?

WLB and benefits are better (WLB is way better in my experience), so for me it was a way to stay in consulting and keep making that sweet sweet $$ for longer without burning out. From that perspective it’s worth it.

Learning-wise, in my experience at MBB we have much deeper and closer client relationships (talking to clients multiple times a day, vs my old firm where we would go off, do research, and check in once a week), we work with more senior clients at larger companies (C-suite at F500 companies - I’m not talking to them but my partners are), and we do a broader range of work (strategy, ops, org, PMO, etc). So I’m learning a lot about client engagement / stakeholder management, as well as some content areas that my prior firm didn’t touch much, like org and supply chain.

But really, I get to chill for two years as an individual contributor at a job that I already know how to do and make a bunch of money while doing it. What’s not to like?

like

Yes, WLB is way better at my MBB than at the T2 that I worked at, or the T2 that my roommate works at!

For me yes. Pace, quality of output, core consulting skillset were accelerated. Different types of projects and roles created a lot of room to learn.

like

^second. The bar is much higher than at T2 in generally. You’re forced to get better

like

If you consider Kearney, non financial services OW, and S& to be T2 then yes it's definitely worth it

What if it is OW FS? Thoughts on that?

Really wish recruiters would stop trying to push in office work when they themselves don’t even work in office. The pizza party days and “team building activities” the retain/ attract employees are a thing of the past. 90% of what people want : a clear career path, the potential to earn more, a environment that isn’t toxic. It’s really not that hard. I won’t even look at a job that isn’t at least hybrid at that point because all that company cares about is one thing..control

Looking for advice: currently a bit short of 1.5 years into consulting ( PhD, boutique healthcare, market research heavy) and do not see much growth here. Looking for my next move: 1) try and move to a strategy consulting firm ( interest, prior PE experience, long term goal, better exit); 2) move to pharma/biotech- manager/senior manager roles ( better WLB, long term role); 3) Stay put for another 2-3 years and then try to switch to pharma; 4) look for other options - equities research, etc.
