For people who start a new job in the remote environment, where’d you start and how was it? Easier than before, about the same, or more difficult?

I started 2 new jobs remote and it was so easy. It should be like this all the time. My only hangup was with the 2nd company— they had more strict rules with their tech.

I recently started a new job in a new field in a new domain! It’s all fine. Had video calls throughout first week and now people are back to switching off cameras. It did not make any difference

Same. Ever since I joined consulting and because I work in a national practice, on boarding has always seemed (and literally was in some cases) always remote. Whether my experience was the case because I was an experienced hire, idk...but I haven’t been impacted by the COVID situation

I started a technical role at a tech company. Onboarding was very smooth - I was able to meet and get to know the people I work with over video chat. However, some of the work has been more difficult - getting permissions, debugging code, etc. are all tougher remote. I also don’t bump into and meet people I don’t work with randomly in the office, which is a bummer

I started as an analyst in August and it’s brutal

Yeah that’s tough. I’d try to find someone at your level that’s cool with helping you out or some mentor that enjoys helping new people

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

I'm just trying to see what other teachers are doing to balance the two types of learners and how give fair assessments.....

Confession - I don't want to go back to office. I'm happy working from home and find no solid reason in stepping back. I hope the flexi work culture allows permanent WFH - I don't have a "good enough" reason, but I don't want to go (isn't this good enough?) It's been 1.5 years now, too comfortable to step out from my PJs to jeans.
