For privacy consultants in this group - how did you break into privacy consulting? Did you just cold apply or did you have a referral? I graduated law school a couple months ago and took the bar exam, but I'd like to pursue privacy consulting. I took the CIPP/US exam during law school and have some privacy experience at a law firm, but no consulting experience.

Advice plz: is there anyone who left as an experienced senior and regret not making manager? I’m at my promotion year this year and honestly I don’t care if I make manager or not. I always know that I will exit public accounting one day but I never knew when will that be. The past year my mentality has shifted quite a bit, perhaps it has something to do with my newborn child. I can feel the counting down clock starts ticking. Continuing in comments.

I’ve been a search manager for 8 years. What kind of role can I take on at a place like Google etc ? I am trying to figure out what’s next for me. I’ve considered client side, a lot marketing director roles that I think could be a good fit but I feel lost. I am tired of no upward movement in my career.

I just received a verbal offer at a VC and am now just waiting for my contract/compensation details to come through. People say to never accept your first offer, but I am aware that I’m pretty unqualified compared to their normal hire (I’m a “culture fit”). It’s a dream role & a dream company. How hard should I push for compensation?

How do you mentally disconnect from work? I feel like most people just do it naturally, but I can’t. No matter what I’m always thinking about work, how I can improve, what can I do to move up the ladder. It doesn’t matter if I’m busy at work or if it’s a slow period. I am constantly thinking about work and it’s burned me out.

I can't believe the argument I'm having right now. Client is telling me how to design some banners - move the text down, make the logo bigger, "I want to create a hierarchy so let's stack everything" (somebody googled some design terminology) - and I pushed back on a few things that were bad suggestions.
Accounts is telling me to just do what they asked, and I'm saying no, they're paying for our advice and I'm gonna give it even if they ignore it. But accounts is really scared of... ⬇️

Planning to take the CIPP and CIPM. Will be doing self-study. What is the “book” everyone refers to for studying? Is it just the “study guide” the IAPP sells? Does anyone know if the study guides and sample questions you can buy on amazon are sufficient to use for passing? Appreciate any and all advice.
Senior Attorneys Hi All. I just passed the CIPP/US exam and wondering what the in-house market is like for a seasoned corporate and 7+ years privacy compliance attorney. Any and all insights welcome.
Anyone take the CIPM recently? How was it?
Hi all! I’m inclined on taking up the CIPM training and certification exam. I’m already a certified Data Protection Officer in the Philippines. I intend on skipping CIPP as it applies to the US and EU.
How difficult was the exam? Can you share your experience studying for the CIPM exam? Is it advisable to skip CIPP?
Many thanks in advance.

Does anyone here have experience as a combined Privacy Officer and Privacy Counsel role or working with a combined role? We’re deliberating combining those roles at my company, chiefly to save headcount and budget. I have some concerns about someone serving both roles at once (e.g. maintaining privilege), but that could just be me.
