Why take it out of the bag, this isn’t the PGA tour have as many clubs in your bag as you want lol
I had a driver I couldn’t control and a 3 wood that was beautifully consistent, so I took the driver out of the bag
There’s no need. I never hit driver and my 3 wood isn’t quite that far. Name of the game is keeping it in the fairway
Depends on the hole. No reason to ever take the driver completely out of the bag. Case in point: I drilled a 315 yard drive on the finishing hole last week which led to being able to get on in 2 with a 5 iron. Missed the eagle putt by a few inches but that tap in birdie isn’t happening with a 3 wood off the tee.
Depends on the course imo. But if you take it out what are you putting in its place that you don’t already have in there?
If you are that consistent, I would do it. Even on a 550 yard par 5, you go 3w, 6i, pw, 2 putt for a par. This of course assumes you are solid with your iron game. If you are as good off the fairway as you are off the tee with your 3w, then 3w, 3w, 50 yards out to be on in three. I’ve done this many times when my driver is getting loose. Saves so many strokes just being in play
I would recommend getting professionally fitted using a trackman system. Guessing the shaft, or club you are using for your driver is not fit for your swing if you are that consistent with your 3 wood.
👆 very valid point
Also, I would not recommend a 1 iron. Isn't the Lee Trevino quote "even God can't hit a 1 iron".
The extra distance with a driver is pretty significant. If you hit it 20 -30 yards farther than the 3 wood you now have 2-3 less clubs on your approach (e.g. an 8 iron instead of a 6). Fairways are important, but doesn't mean you cant score if you miss them. Just look at the pros fairways hit stats.
Have no idea. But I will tell you, I just started taking lessons in May and hit my first par yesterday. Now I’ll join the ranks of the frustrated 😂😂
Without a driver you will have more fairway woods on par fives and long iron shots into par fours. Some challenging courses have 500 yard par fours. You think you can take that 3 off the deck as effectively as you can off the tee? Learn how to hit the driver 275-300 consistently and it will be a weapon.
If you are playing muni’s that are around 6000 yards or less there is absolutely no reason to hit your driver if you are unable to. Now if you are playing some decent courses from the tips you are going to want your driver to be an option.
