For the past 4 years I’ve been in a cycle where I burn out bad during busy season, then from March-July I look for a new job but nothing seems interesting so I stay. All is good through October, then November and December I desperately want to get out, having the same issue as above. I like sales/client aspect of my job and the grind, but busy season kills me. Do any of you who have been in this long term struggle with this? Any advice?

I will say to take a step back and critically re asses what you really want then go for it with vigor. I am in a similar boat as you except that this time I have finally decided that I am done with that kind of life. I am busy from Jan- May and I am badly burnt out for the rest of the year. I am on a visa so exit opportunities are almost not feasible for me at the moment. I have decided to proceed with an executive mba from next fall to start pivoting into what I believe I will enjoy doing for the next 10 years.

Second this. I looked at a lot of jobs and thought "this doesn't sound that interesting" and then I realized... is what I'm doing right now SO INTERESTING I'm willing to burn myself out over it every year? The answer ended up being no.

like

Same issue but I’m going to give something new a try and I’m not talking myself out of it this time. Busy season just keeps getting longer and there’s no down time. I’m at a point where I don’t think it can get worse anywhere else I go, and even if I don’t find my dream job, I’m willing to settle on a step down to get into a new role. I work 23% more hours than a standard work year, so if I get paid a little less I might still come out better hourly and move up again down the road. It’s just too depressing to never have time for a life 1/3 of the year.

Have you considered taking a month off pre busy season? If that doesn’t help probably it’s time to seek something different.

Sounds like my marriage.

For someone who has a sub-par undergrad GPA and is not particularly skilled at math/arithmetic (I know Math isn’t the core skill set but it is important in scoring well on the GMAT /Courses) , is it worth it for me to try to get into a above average MBA program? For me personally it’s either a good program or bust because it is a serious financial commitment.
