I recently discovered that I am being placed in a band of 1-2 years in role because I made a switch from operations to product. My colleagues are making 20-30% more than I am and we have similar output. Part of the management perspective is that I have adequate stock value and that switching into product means that I do not have my prior experience packaged into my banding.
