No billable requirement at the firm, but I was told explicitly by a partner that 2100+ is the expectation for our group
This is what my firm is like too. No requirement but they “expect” 180/month

Is it free market or no? If you have an assignment system relax. If not, um I billed way less than that so it looks fine to me but you’re trending up. 160 months are ideal in my book.
It’s an assignment system mostly, but has free market elements if a partner likes you (and the assigning partner has seemed to really take to my work so is putting me on his deals)
I’m at a firm like this and I would just relax and enjoy whatever free time I have until I get another call from the staffer

There is no clear rule. Partner mentor told me to aim for 2000 hours over the year (averaging to about 170 per month). Group told us to aim for 150 a month (1800 a year). I was also told by a counsel to bill 180 to 220 a month.

but I also got a market bonus when I billed 1400 in a year 🤷♀️
My friends at no minimum hours firms aim for 1800-2000 in years where they are slower.
Would suggest you target 2100 and try not to exceed 2400 as a rule of thumb.
Thank you, really appreciate a partner’s perspective on this since I do want to make partner!

Find out what the bonus threshold is, if any, and aim for that, assuming it’s humane and you want a bonus. At my firm at least that’s the de facto requirement for being full capacity. I shoot for 1950.
What are these V50s with no billable? I’ve seen this a few times on this site and I’m so confused. Is this like practice group specific or legitimately the firm doesn’t have billables?
